I think you strayed wildly, Veg. I liked a point buried in there, but you got all off on stuff I didn't say (3rd to 6th rounds) and stuff from other topics that isn't really salient here (McCoy).
The point is, it's a quarterback league and a passing league... and most people think the best defense against it is a pass rush. We committed the highest picks to supporting roles, not quarterback (Sanchez or Clausen), #1 WR (like Bryant), franchise running back (like Spiller), or pass rusher (like Clay M. or the Michigan kid or one of several others in rounds 1 or 2).
I don't dislike every pick. I don't have any problem with a 2nd round center or corner. I have a problem with no passers, pass catchers, or pass rushers in the first round of the last two drafts, given that it's the name of the game and we already have the left tackle.
I do think we're better. It's just a fairly specific team-building philosophy I don't agree with. Now, we may draft/sign passcatchers and pass rushers and find a better long-term quarterback next offseason and it'll all look like a plan to me.
And yes, I acknowledge that perhaps neither Sanchez or Clausen would have been the man... but it's just part of my larger point about passing, catching, and rushing the passer.
