Have You Ever???

Have you ever you interviewed for a job that you thought was absolutley perfect for your strength, background, interest, and work ethic? Even to the point when you're being told in the interview that this job can take up to 6-7 months before you're comfortable with the daily workflow?
Well, I have. And unfortunately, the second anyone tells me such a thing I nod my head in agreement and with respect all the while thinking I'm gonna be different than the norm. Guess what? It took me about 6 months to learn the position so THANK GOD I had a very smart Supervisor that had enough experience behind him to understand the reality of it all.
Folks, this is what Holmgren has here for us. I'm sure McCoy had the same world according to Flugel working when he first sat down with our brain trust before we drafted him. The good news is Holmgren has been in this league long enough to understand rookie QBs going to NFL teams in transition can get destroyed physically, mentally and emotionally if they are thrown into the fire ahead of schedule. I can assure you he's not thinking about what QBs are available in the first 3 rounds of 2011 when the veterans haven't even packed their suitcases for Berea yet in 2010.
I'm happy to report the career thing worked out well for me. That said, I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I felt like I was working on another planet with a completely different language for the first 2 months. I asked more questions than that little kid on Leave it to Beaver. My manager never allowed me to take on too much too soon and it made the biggest difference in how well the rest of my career for that company would be.
Again, we HAVE to understand all QBs progress at different rates & it's usually better if you join an offense with a Marvin Harrison and Marshall Faulk already in progress. If not, we need to understand where we're at in terms of being ready for a rookie QB. Dan Marino & the Steeler Doofus were drafted by teams that frequented post seasons. Matt Ryan seems like an exception to the rule but without 1500 yards from Michael Turner in 09 - did he take a step forward or backward? Flacco has an enormous margin of error with his defense and running game so he's kind of an exception to the rule too. TOO MANY people wrote off Drew Brees when SD was holding that 1st overall draft pick heading into Drew's 3rd season. Was Philip Rivers ever even necessary after seeing Brees transcend the Saints? That very 1st pick overall could be the missing link to the promised land for San Diego. Let's be careful about jumping to the same early conclusions San Diego did.
