Atlanta Braves at Chicago Cubs
The bustling urban neighborhood of North Chicago set the tone nicely for the evening contest that would follow. Everywhere shops packed full of people. Shops were jam-packed into the narrowest of corridors that Chicago boasted as “streets”.
To say that I was looking forward to Wrigley Field on our tour of stadiums is an understatement. I ran around with my wife trying, unsuccessfully, to find some of the scenes from my childhood favorite “Rookie of the Year”.
When it was finally game time, I bought tickets behind home-plate remembering our last experience at Comerica Park. Grandstand was all that was available. Sitting there, looking around I got instant nostalgia back to childhood. The beams that held up the upper deck stood out, obstructing many people’s view of the action. For me, I loved it. As a kid, the tickets my Dad bought always landed us right behind a massive three seat-wide beam.
We were fortunate to have a perfect view.
Despite the crowded nature of the ancient relic, everything worked. Organized chaos. The fans were great; the manually changed scoreboard that stopped working in the 2nd inning left me scrambling to my phone to check updates on the Tribe game which was happening simultaneously.
Despite all of the small inconveniences, to this point I couldn’t imagine a better experience. Sitting in that stadium was truly one of my favorite sports moments of all time.
