General daily musings of whatever is on my mind. Sports focused, but I reserve the right to allow my thoughts to wander in whatever precipitous direction they so choose.
The looming NFL lock-out, the players "need", and the owners "greed".

I was listening to a local sports talk show here in Cleveland the other day, (Jerod Cherry and LeCharles Bentley, hosts of WKNR 850 AM’s “X’s and O’s with the Pros) and they had guest Montrae Holland (Dallas Cowboys guard) on to discuss numerous issues. One of the issues that peaked my interest as I had been thinking about it lately, was the possible NFL lock-out. According to Montrae, this lock-out is not up in the air, it is going to happen. Montrae claims that those players around the NFL with any brains are saving up their hard-earned money, because this it going to be a long, drawn out battle between the players and the owners. Montrae & Lecharles claim they as players are not even getting close to a fair shake, and that if the fans had any idea what the owners were making off of the players they would completely understand why this will happen. This leads me to Eric Wright.
A few weeks ago I had a conversation with Eric about this very thing ...in fact it was a rather heated conversation, mainly on Wrights part, due to me stating that Free Agency & the players union were the worst thing to ever happen to the NFL.

While I don't entirely believe this, a part of me does. I was then compared to a slave owner, and similar things, similar to what Jesse Jackson recently stated about Dan Gilbert. Blaming Eric for this is out of bounds, as clearly I was pushing his buttons a bit ....however, the passionate dare I say it... hatred that came from Eric in regards to his feelings about NFL owners was almost jaw dropping.* Eric went on and on about how the owners are greedy and taking advantage of the poor players, and the players were not getting paid even close to what they deserve, and on and on and on. I stated that I work for a fortune 500 company, the owner is millionaire 100 times over, and I get paid in a year what Mr. Wright probably spent on the watch he was wearing for having the privilege of doing a job that he loves. Eric went on to say fans just don't get it etc. etc. and the players need to get what is "theirs".
It seems to me the players and the owners are at a point in which a lock-out is no longer an "if" but rather a "how long and what are the ramifications?". The owners seem poised to make a stand, and the players are preparing for a long time without a paycheck.
Where do you stand, are you with the players, or with the owners? Should the owners give what the players demand, or should they make a stand? Are the owners beholden to the players to pay what the players want, or are the players required to either play for what is offered or get lost?
I think I lean towards the owners on this one, even though both sides are full of greedy ungrateful a-holes.
Also, as an aside ...Eric said the rap against him being a poor tackler is unwarranted and his numbers speak for themselves. He said he's never going to risk his career & livelihood by putting himself in unnecessary situations, but he is not a poor tackler. fwiw
I've attached a public poll to this thread, there is no middle ground, choose the lesser of two evils.
*Eric did make it a point to mention "Mr. Lerner" is a great owner.[/QUOTE]
