Default Notre Dame BEAT USC WITHOUT Jimmy Clausen?

Hard to figure what Notre Dame misses most today. Do they miss Jimmy Clausen or the pro style offense or the Brady-less Charlie's Weis? Maybe they're just thrilled USC isn't paying players as obviously; and they have just as many guys on scholarship during the probation.

When I saw that final score, I couldn't help laughing. Not only that, but how wonderful is Texas looking without Colt McCoy this year?

I was really really really hoping we could start a healthy McCoy instead of Jake Delhomme vrs Carolina today. Unfortunately, I'm a Browns' fan that has learned to understand the trend that people we need the most to turn things around usually tend to get injured. (ie: Fujita, McCoy/every QB, Pashos, Womack, Yates & Cribbs).

If Clausen finally looks like an NFL QB today and has a career day - it won't because he was a good draft pick as much as it will mean our franchise is cursed. There will be ZERO remorse from this fan that we got McCoy in round 3 instead of overrating Clausen in round 2. If they beat us, Clausen might be most remembered as the player that cost them Andrew Luck in the 2011 draft. The scary thing is so could Jake Delhomme. Consequently, I'm nervous about this lesser of 2 evils matchup today. Welcome to the day in the life of a Browns' fan where the potential give-me turns into the biggest of challenges.
- Tom F. (I have some friends that like Clausen just chomping at the bits to remind me he's a good draft pick)

I suspect the outcome was more about who USC was starting at quarterback, not the lack of Jimmy C.

FWIW, ESPN's highlights were showing the USC QB hitting guys in the chest and hands with nobody standing between those receivers and the end zone.

That still doesn't change the reality that somebody needed to take snaps with a gold helmet and lead them to victory. It also doesn't change that they're 1-0 vrs USC in the very 1st season since Clausen left.

First time since 1986 (Holtz) that a new HC beat USC in his first meeting. Notre Dame didn't have their own starter @ QB since 4 or 5 weeks ago, and they started a true freshman. But IMO it is not so much who played QB for USC as who the HC of that team is - Kiffin.

They haven't even taken the sanctions hit yet on recruiting. I hope this is Kiffin's last stop as HC anywhere.

USC scoring drives: 3 yards, 15 yards, 2 yards, 18 yards.

ND defense has been good the last three weeks. Only TD they've allowed was the 4-play two yard drive in this game.

ND's QB is a true freshman, 18-year old, 2-star recruit.

I'm pretty sure we all know where this thread belongs - and why it wasn't posted there.

If not - Clausen was the opposing QB yesterday. I guess I'm not understanding an opposing QB on game day needed to be moved elsewhere. Aren't we getting a little too nervous about what can be posted? You have to know I was just having fun; and I mentioned some of my friends think Clausen is gonna be a stud. The last paragraph of that spoke about the QB matchup yesterday. I think it turned out to be pretty accurate considering how many TD passes we witnessed.

Is it okay to say the controversial 1st round pick Joe Haden intercepted Jimmy Clausen at a very key time in the game?

I'm not sure where the confusion is.

Your jab about the outcome of a NCAA game was moved to the appropriate forum - not deleted.

Your last paragraph about the matchup between Claustrich & Delhomme could have been added to the thread that already existed on that very subject.

As someone who often derided the apparent target of the jab of this thread for "hijacking, starting new threads on an existing subject, and posting in the wrong forum," I figured you'd be the first to understand.

Any examples (plural) of me complaining about this more than once? I think you'd know that as a mod if you were here more often than rarely. Understandign I've always been a big offender of that - I've made sure I didn't complain about very often if ever. So research this well.

Must be some private emails going around as they often do anytime Clausen's name appears. But that's okay if a moderator sends them. Tell everyone I said hello guys. And I think we know who I'm addressing here. It's not Gabe, BernietheKid, EE or Riffer X. I doubt it's you either but I think I understand the politics alot more than people want me to.

There was a time when we ALL found it funny to be a critic of Clausen. That was BEFORE we learned the Clausen fanbase had more California residents than just Shep. Hmmmm! Now we compromise our beliefs and police what can and can't be written about QBs in gameday matchups vrs the Browns. There was more written about Clausen vrs Delhomme in that thread.

To those I offended about being happy we have McCoy and Haden instead of Jimmy Clausen, I apologize. I never meant to hurt anyone's feelings or produce tear drops. To those taking stuff written on this board and mailing to others off this board - who's really here for the right reasons? Do we REALLY want to go there? I think that's a huge conflict of interest.

Peter King on ND true freshman QB Tommy Rees:

Quote:
i. Imagine you're Tommy Rees. You're 18 years old -- don't even turn 19 until May -- a true freshman at Notre Dame, walked into the place as the third or fourth quarterback maybe, and now, in the span of 15 days, you've won college football games at Notre Dame Stadium (over Utah), at Yankee Stadium (over Army) and at the L.A. Coliseum (over USC). I mean, you could play 20 years of football and play well enough to make the college and pro football halls of fame, and never have 15 days like that. Ever.

What's the point of me wasting my time "researching" these examples if you're not going to understand what I post, much less read it.

Clearly, you didn't read my response.

Had you, then you would have noticed my use of "Claustrich" indicating not only my tolerance but actual enjoyment of mocking Jimmy Clausen.

Again, you are free to write whatever you want about QB matchups vs the Browns and I even offered a link to a thread where you could do just that. However, your thread title, (and 1st half of the post) was about a collegiate matchup. So I moved the thread to the appropriate forum - I didn't delete it. That's moderating 101, not policing. While we're on that topic, I suggest having a clue as to what goes on behind the scenes before you accuse anybody of anything. Because you look like a crybaby otherwise (Much like the original target of your thread). Which brings me to the other reason for moving the post - your target. Regardless if he still lurks here or not - LET. IT. GO. It's really quite childish, and immense headache to deal with.

Even for a "part-timer" like me.
