Agreed on the Vegas Bowl. Other than that, there isn't a whole lot out there this year, partly because even the best conferences are about 2 1/2 deep this year. Other than that, there are some interesting stories in terms of individual teams. If I had to pick a couple of non-BCS games to watch (because any idiot can see the obvious appeal of Oklahoma-UConn), here are the ones I would pick: Chick-fil-A South Carolina vs. Florida State Atlanta Georgia Dome Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m. ESPN Champs Sports West Virginia vs. NC State Orlando, Fla. Florida Citrus Bowl Dec. 28, 6:30 p.m. ESPN I would also, for purely homer reasons, throw in the Music City and GoDaddy (God, I can't believe I had to type that name) Bowls. Tennessee was dead in the water halfway through the season, and even though they got fat off of bad competition, it's not like the team has much talent either (not to chant it like a mantra, but three freshmen starting on the offensive line, true freshman QB, etc., etc.). And speaking of dead in the water, Miami was awful last year (although they were able to hang with teams here and there), then won the MAC this year; great job by the Redhawks. Dennis |
