Thumbs down Terrelle Pryor, four other Buckeyes suspended five games in 2011.

Terrelle, you've been a major disappointment and a waste of talent. Get it together, son.

Terrelle Pryor and his teammates must repay between $1,000 and $2,500 to charity and serve a suspension in 2011.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor and four other Buckeyes were suspended by the NCAA for the first five games of next season for selling championship rings, jerseys and awards, and receiving improper benefits from a tattoo parlor. All can still play in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.
Along with Pryor, running back Daniel Herron, wide receiver DeVier Posey, offensive lineman Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas must sit out and repay between $1,000 to $2,500 to charity.
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said the school will appeal the suspensions.
"While we believe sanctions should be rendered, we do believe they are severe," he said Thursday at a news conference. "We do believe we can give mitigating circumstances for the NCAA to consider."
The NCAA did not suspended the players for Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl against the eighth-ranked Razorbacks because the "student-athletes did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred."
"These are significant penalties based on findings and information provided by the university," Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president of academic and membership affairs, said in the release.
Lennon said a game was added on to the usual four-game penalty "because these student-athletes did not immediately disclose the violations when presented with the appropriate rules education."
Pryor is the team's star, while Herron is the leading rusher and Posey is the second-leading receiver. Adams is a starter at left tackle and Thomas a top sub on the defensive line.
A sixth player, linebacker Jordan Whiting must sit out the first game of the 2011 season and pay $150 to a charity for the value of services that were discounted by the tattoo artist because he was a Buckeyes player.
"We as coaches feel the buck stops here," coach Jim Tressel said. "We're the ones who need to make things even more crystal clear."
Smith said Ohio State was not "explicit" in instructing players about the sale of apparel, awards and gifts.
Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his Big Ten ring, Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award and his 2008 gold pants, a trinket given to players who are a part of a team which beats rival Michigan.
Adams must repay $1,000 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring.
Herron must repay $1,150 for selling his football jersey, pants and shoes for $1,000 and receiving discount services worth $150.
Posey sold his 2008 Big Ten ring for $1,200 and also received discount services.

The backlash here will be epic. Talk radio in Columbus is going nuts.

This may be the one that finally forces some reconcilation with the obvious: collegiate football is a capitalist operation that doesn't currently provide direct compensation to its primary employees (the players). So, while the rules have been clear (you can't profit from your collegiate athletics while a student athlete) the "look the other way" crap that's been going on for years continues.

Everyone's dirty here: the NCAA, the University, and the players. Ugly stuff.

Rules are rules. Buckeyes or not, they were dumbasses. Very simple. Until they change the rules you can't sell your shit or take a discount. Not saying I agree with the University making all kinds of money off the players while they don't get a dollar, but selling your rings and jersey is against the rules. Dumb dumb dumb!

This is pretty harsh for selling their own personal property - pants, rings, etc. Any college student except an athlete can do this so now Ohio State might as well forfeit the 2011 football season. This is bullshit. 5 games is extremely harsh for what they did. They weren't taking $$$ from an agent for Christ sake. Fucking NCAA!

This could prove devastating for Pryor. He's nowhere near ready to be an NFL QB and needs his senior season. I know there will be an appeal but can't see anything less than a four game suspension. Will he choose to go pro? I think he'll drop quite a bit since he'll need alot of coaching if he wants a QB spot. Plus he has to declare by Jan. for the pros and the NCAA may not have ruled on the case by that time. Any way it goes he's in a pretty deep hole.

Could go on and on about the hypocrisy of the NCAA but what's the point?? They'll never change. Pay us millions upon millions for TV rights, bowl games, etc. and we'll keep it all. The players? We're sorry--not our concern.

ESPN talking head Mark May dishes on hyprocrisy but not the way you would think...He says the Big Ten gets preferential treatment, says if this was a SEC school then the players wouldn't be able to play in the Bowl game. What total BS! Mark May - have you ever heard of Cam Newton you asshole? What penalties did he get? What school does he play for? Aren't they in the SEC? Mark May - your network has a big TV contract with the Big Ten not the SEC you hypocrite, watch your ass because at ESPN they have fired people for less.
