Here's a great summary of the current lay of the land: Big 12 demands loyalty from Nebraska and Missouri, or else - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF - Yahoo! Sports |

Seems like Missouri's been in the Big 10 mix for a long time. At least for a while, they "seemed" like a Big 10 school (better academics, mostly)... but both MU and KU have fallen in that area over the last five years. Just being in the Big 10 is a bit of a boon to academic image. Same for the Pac 10. The Big 12 suffers really badly in that area. |

I think all of these schools are ranked 75 or above by USN&WR: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin. Hell, if I recall right, Minnesota's rising, too. Iowa has the most famous writer's program in the nation. And the Pac-10? Get outta here. Stanford, Cal, USC, and UCLA are all top 25. Washington was 42nd last year. Arizona State is known as a low-ranked party school... but I think Arizona's becoming the Florida of the West, as far as being flat-out weird. The Big 12? Baylor? Is that still a good school? |

Yeah, the South does fine. Miami is one of the top law school's in the nation. Vandy's a great school, as is Tulane. I don't know much about Alabama except that a really smart producer I work with went there. In the Big 12, I'd say Texas is a shining light. Very good school. But Oklahoma, OK State, Nebraska, Iowa State... not so much. |

| Associated Baptist Press - Kenneth Starr named Baylor president Texas is... good. Very good. They are, however, the only academically viable school in the Big 12, agreed. |
