She's connecting with a very large part of middle America with a not-very-subtle message of divisiveness. She's blaming change, progressiveness, science, and smart people for our problems. She aligns with the Tea Party and says Obama "is not like us."

She's attractive and photogenic and talks all folksy. Keep in mind that old white people were yelling racist epitaphs at black congressmen after some of Palin's more incendiary remarks (don't retreat, reload). Rocks were thrown through windows. Racist and disrespectful signs were waved with a little more swagger.

Purportedly it was about health care reform, something they didn't really understand enough to know it wasn't going to hurt them at all. But it was really about something much bigger. It was permission.

And I think you put way too much emphasis in politics and politicians in how it affects your life. This country was founded on individualism and ingenuity. And no matter what party is in power, those are still the qualities that will make you sucessful more than any one thing a politician does. I think rather though that worry about Palin feuling the anger of those "old folks" you might want to consider exactly why there was enough underlying anger in them in the first place....

I'm not concerned about politicians effect on ME. And as far as leaders tapping into the anger of a majority population that feels less powerful than in the past, Hitler was one of the best ever at it. I hate Hitler references, but this one actually connects logically.

The low self-esteem of Germans between the wars and the that of a certain corner of White America right now don't legitimize either "movement." Both are racism or Xenophobia hiding under a veil of old time Patriotism or Nationalism.

Certainly not any conservatives I hear from. I don't think you understand just how limited her attractiveness as a viable candidate is for the Right. You may want to think the Right is dumb and willing to grab onto anyone who fights against Obama, but you'd be wrong.
