Default Clay Matthews Has Another Son Casey on deck for 2011

Folks,
I just recently watched a rerun of the 2009 Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State. 1 guy that jumped off the television screen was Casey Matthews. He was freakin everywhere. If you want an ILBer born with instincts to play the position at a high level, dad and grandpa were pretty kind with the football genes. Sounds like a guy we might want to keep our eyes on. Not sure where's he's gonna be projected just yet; but he might be flying under the radar some. I never even knew there was another Matthews in college football but the about-to-be senior looks like the real deal for the next level. What a football family. Bruce Matthews son is here in Nashville trying to make the Titans as an undrafted rookie with a position coach that is his father's best friend (Mike Munchak).

After watching this video - did you ever see D'Qwell Jackson giving us that kind of significance at or behind the line of scrimmage? Better instincts makes you quicker to the football and better vrs the point of attack.

As you were,
- Tom F.

Good Stuff Fluges! I found out about Casey when Clay III was going through the draft process. You right about him giving us something that DQ can't and that is instincts. I would like to see more film on him especially this year coming up but he definately looks the part. He is someone I'm gonna keep my eye on for sure.

Glad you brought him up Tom!

I've wanted Casey for a few months now, the track record of success for that family is off the hook and you just KNOW daddy Matthews is in his ear mentoring him regularly, along with big brother Clay. The last I checked he's being projected 5th-6th rounds. I fully expect that to change come draft day and would put him in the 2nd-3rd round range. You're correct, he has elite instincts which is the KEY.

I'm all for drafting him. In my book he is a kid with everything that can't be taught who can be molded into an above average linebacker in the NFL.

I said it with Clay III and I'll say it again, if you can get a Matthews on your roster you do it. Those genes were made to play football

Good lord he looks a lot like his dad. I'm in on reaching a couple spots for this guy in the mid rounds.

Near the beginning of the video it shows coments by his Head Coach Chip Kelly:
"He's probably the most instinctual player we have. I know he's the most instinctual football player I've ever had."

LOVE that!

Gabe, you're right about the resemblence. It's unbelievable.

You know, I'm as geeked as anyone about adding a Matthews to the roster, but how many times have we seen a situation like this - a fan favorite entering the draft - only to end up in disappointment. I'm not going to get my hopes up.

(that's a lie, I'll get my hopes up, but I'll be painfully aware that it will not come true).

Yeah but Fooleeze, his brother is ripping shit up in Green Bay, his dad was a monster, his uncle was a monster. I think this goes beyond "fan favorite" type homerism and just the realization that this family was made to play football...

Casey isn't as athletic as his brother. We'll see how he plays this year.
