Default Heckert hearts Kevin Kolb

An interesting tidbit from a Kevin Kolb profile:

Quote:
For two and a half months, with three quarterbacks on the roster, the Eagles became a dateline for rumormongering. Would the Eagles really consider moving McNabb? Or would they trade Michael Vick? Or would they dare part with Kolb? Of the three, he garnered the most value. Three years ago, when former Eagles GM Tom Heckert, now with the Browns, toyed with taking a post with the Falcons, pre-Matt Ryan, he said he would have traded for Kolb.

"Whatever Andy wanted, I would have given him," Heckert said at the time. "A one (draft pick), a two ... two ones. No joke. Kolb is legit."

Forgive me if this is a dumb question...but there's no chance Philly lets him go now, right? I mean, McNabb is gone and Vick is useless, unless they drafted someone (and that's why this question might be stupid, I didn't pay attention to who other teams drafted, lol) they need Kolb there.

Right. The Iggles were so confident in Kolb that they were willing to ship McNabb to a division rival.

But it's interesting to read that Heckert was madly in love with him, given how we debated the possibility of bringing in the Kolbster.

Kolb seems to have it. What I want to see is when they are losing with 2-3 minutes left.. does he rise to the occasion and win like McNabb did more often than not... or does he fold... That really is going to be the difference. I don't think there is any dispute on the arm or running the offense... it's going to come down to can he lead the team, win, and be a championship type of guy.. becuase that IS what they let go.. and to a division rival. I am sure Donovan is working VERY hard to make sure they pay dearly for that.. if he can.. Washington has a very good D.. solid RB.. and now have a QB.. the OL protecion will be the issuse..they could really be a force with McNabb.. .. I am not predicting this.. but it surely seems possible when I look at the roster they have.

It isn't a dumb question hiway.

To answer, I wouldn't say there's NO chance. If the Iggles struggle I wouldn't be surprised to see Kolb among others shipped off and used as scapegoats. FWIW.

The vibes coming from the ivory tower through the media was that Heckert did about anything during the winter to trade for Kolb. McNabb didn't want to come to a rebuilding team so Heckert wasn't going to go that route. I have heard that Heckert's offer might have been as high as this years #1 + Rogers and something next year. That was until Rogers packed a gun with his tooth brush. IMO, I don't think Philly would have given Kolb up at all. They seemed only to dangle him to get teams to come after McNabb.

For someone like Heckert to be willing to sell the farm to get this guy, he must think he is special. He has indicated that he thinks Kolb has a higher cealing then Schaub did when he was traded to Houston.

Kolb, the heir-apparent, was fortunate that McNabb was shipped out well before the season. with really only Vick in the wings, it's clear Kolb would have to falter heavily for a QB controversy to develop there.

pretty good situation, really. confidence in the new guy, team commits to him, ships out the vet breathing down his neck. just think>>>if the Eagles had realized this sooner, there's a chance McNabb might be a Brown right now.

that or Kolb was bait and McNabb wouldn't consider CLE as an option like Y-Town said.

He made it to 5 NFC CG's. While he hasn't won the Super Bowl, I would say "sucks" is a cop out tag to place on him. What did Jim Kelly win?

I would hardly lay the eagles playoff failures at Mcnabbs feet. When is the last time we had QB who could even carry his jock? I don't give him credit for all their success either..Seriously..they guy had 1 year with a top reciever (TO) and went to the superbowl that year..when has he ever had top talent at wr to work with.. I think that speaks volumes on how good he really is. I believe you will see him in the top 10 again this year as he has some decent weapons to work with in Washington. But to say he sucks???? That's just being a hater... not even close to reality..
