It was Michael Smith. But that was a Day Two draft report, which easily could have been spin. There were similar reports that the Niners would take Clausen if he fell to them, etc.

Though it's possible, there isn't any evidence that Heckert & Mangini didn't want McCoy. Holmgren took responsibility for the pick -- a good thing to do if you want to protect your young GM -- but it doesn't at all mean that the rest of the room hated Freckles.

This would have been a good idea a few weeks ago. But with the pre-season soon ending, the McCoy talk should die down very soon.

We had the preseason to continue debating the merits of drafting McCoy. Once that time is over? He's a non-topic. It got interesting again with Mangini's quotes, McCoy's play, and then the chastising.

So let me get this whole pre season argument into perspective,
1-Mangini is an idiot.
2-McCoy sucks and will or should be cut and we hate the pick.
3-Haden definitely was an awful pick at seven and we hate him too.
4-Holmgren keeps Mangini so he can trump draft day choices and Mangini is just happy and or lucky to be in the room.
5-Wallace should be starting over Delhomme.
Rogers is the best starting QB in the history of the NFL.

What else am I missing?

"I can't believe the Browns took TJ Ward at #38 when Golden Boy with the pretty blond locks was there for the taking."

and

"Mangini and Heckert are still pissed Freckles was chosen by the HMFIC when he wasn't even on their draft board. Look for him to get cut by Mangini even though he doesn't make final roster decisions or Heckert even though HMFIC wants to keep him. They really don't give two shits what HMFIC thinks!"
