I'm out on a limb on this: I think we'll see plenty of Wallace no matter what.

I was in Big 12 country when he played at ISU and loved that kid. He's that rare breed who can run AND throw... and he's really sharp. His only knock is that he's 5'11". But he's a blast to watch.

Add in that Holmgren wanted him enough to trade for him and you don't see a guy destined to only hold clipboards. Why would Seneca have wanted to make THAT move? Wouldn't that be a bit of a betrayal by his former coach?

It just adds up to a serious role for Seneca. In fact, he just recently said himself that he's excited that he's going into this season KNOWING he's going to contribute rather than hoping.

He's gonna play. I'm laying out six packs for bets. He'll be part of the attack.

He'll be a nice change of pace guy to run some gadgets and he is very capable if something happens to Delhomme. But, Daboll just has to design the right type of plays for both guys.
There is a difference though between moving in the pocket to find passing lanes and breaking the pocket when there is one for you to step up into (or manipulate within).

Does anyone else have concern about Wallace playing a lot and running a lot of "wildcat" plays? If he gets hurt, which obviously is possible if he's going to be scrambling, running, etc... Colt McCoy is one play away from being our full-time starter, and from what we can tell, he's no where near ready.

Having your backup QB be a guy that plays and plays in wildcat formations seems dangerous to me when your 3rd qb is a rook 3rd rounder... almost like I'd want them to keep 4 QBs but I know they can't.

I don't see Wallace playing "a lot". He may see a play or two ever other game at best. I also think more cases than not, if he's back in the wild cat he'll be throwiing (and Cribbs will be back there with him). Really any player is one play away from being hurt.

Chances are CLE may carry 4 QBs anyway, with Colt being #4.

They'd sign a street FA or UFLer like Quinn Gray before handing it over to McCoy this season. It ain't happening.

I thought Jake was great... but I'm on record as saying you're going to see a lot of Seneca Wallace. The Browns made sure to get him in against the ones and he put the ball in the end zone twice.

I'll betcha a six-pack, Grey. Wallace will play.
So your actually discredting Jake becuase he drove us for a TD score that a RB scored and not a td pass????. Last time I checked rushing and recieving td's were both worth 6 points. You've got some twisted logic. He only had 1 series and went 6-7.. sure the guy with 2 td's is going to have a higher qb rating (wallace) ..but your way off base on this. If Jake can continue to play even near that level, we won't see wallace except for gaget plays. He was Holmgrens BACKUP before. As for the rollout TD to Robiske..scared the heck out of me and looked like an INT waiting to happen. I think he was lucky it was not picked off and I am guessing he got chewed in the film room. seriously .. Wallace looked like the backup he is. Ok but nontheless a backup.

MY point was he is always on the move whether it's moving in the pocket to find a throwing lane or mostly rolling out and throwing on the run.

That's what he is. He will never be a pocket passer.

Wallace didnt impress me at all. IMO hes a couple levels below Vick and I honestly think Vick is a bum. BUT Wallace IS the second best on our team. I think the wild cat would be perfect for him afew passes and awhole lot of running from everywhere

If I discredited anybody, I challenge you to find it. Go.

Now you're finished not finding it. I'm telling you... Wallace plays.

And yes.... Wallace can pass from the pocket.

I just think over the long haul, it's possible that right now, today, Wallace will give us more than Delhomme. Seven years ago... I feel differently.

Some of Wallace's throws over the middle seem to float a little bit, probably because he has to throw the ball with a little more of an arc to get it over the line.

Here's an example from the Packers game:

Maybe he was just trying to float it over both defensive backs, but a frozen rope probably would have gotten the job done. Or he could have looked off the safety, something that a guy focused on spotting open throwing lanes is less likely to do.

His height is a limitation, though he still can be successful.
