Guys I haven't read the entirety of this thread, but can we tone down the nasty shit towards shep, even just a little?

Trust me fellas, I know where you're coming from, but at the same time, shit will never get better if you constantly make it personal, and constantly chalk up every shep post to shep just being batshit crazy or narcassistic or whatever. Trust me, shep throws up enough softballs on football topics that you should never need to make it personal to rip his posts to shreds.

Do it for the gipper.....

Should this thread be Stickied in the NFL Rumble forum? Just wondering.

"Shep" (just another guy on a message board) has an opinion.:
"I was not a huge Colt McCoy fan going into the draft. I thought the Browns should take Clausen.
When they passed on him at 38, I literally crapped myself and threw up at the same time."

Tom, Kafka had a nice preseason, including a 50 yard TD pass and a last second game-winning 20-yard TD pass last week. On the whole, he played quite a bit better than McCoy.

Colt was efficient yesterday, but he was dumping off to backs and letting James Davis get the yards, and that's against third stringers. He didn't get the ball downfield. He composed himself very well and 13 of 13 is always a good thing... but he didn't answer any big questions about his arm or ability to drive the ball downfield.

Kafka did.

Thanks, 'Spec... I think (!). M's right, though... it was just one guy. Tom and Alo stepped in really quickly, which I also appreciate.

All in all, I think we're doing fantastic.

Softballs???

Kafka did not have a 50 yard TD pass. He had the 57 yard pass play to a RB, and it was really a shorter pass with a bunch of YAC, which resulted in a FG. He's had an up and down preseason.

PG1 3/7 76 yards (had the 57 yard play to RB Hall), 1 sack, 0TD 0INT
PG2 4/12 29 yards, 3 sacks, 0TD, 2INT
PG3 9/13 93 yards, 1 sack, 1TD, 0INT (had the game winning drive)
PG4 9/27 76 yards, 2 sacks, 0TD, 1 INT

I posted video of the 50 yard deep ball. Was it a scrimmage? The pass I clipped in here was thrown about 40 yards, perfect over the shoulder.

Anyway, the point I made and Alo echoed is that Kafka looked more like an NFL quarterback throughout the preseason.

But McCoy was certainly a helluva lot better last night than at any point before, dumpoffs or not. I don't wanna dispute that.

Unfortunately, Kafka didn't manage to pull off the Hasselbeck act. We'll see if he can earn the #2 QB job next year -- that's his next hurdle.

Chad Hall is a former RB who's now playing WR. Kafka's pass to him was down the field, though Hall was wide open due to broken coverage.

We'll see how he looks next year. At this point, there really isn't any reason to keep talking about him (or McCoy, for that matter).

Not sure going 25/59 (42%) with 1 TD, 3 INT, 4.64 Y/A, and 7 sacks is looking all that more like an NFL QB throughout the preseason (with 2 plainly bad games).

Here is 57 yard pass play from the first preseason game (wide open guy and the ball in the air for a long while). NFL Videos: Mike Kafka 57-yard pass

Ball is in the air for 20/25 yards and the rest is YAC.

If that was a TD... and he also had the game-winner TD at the end of the 3rd preseason game... he had 2 TDs, not 1, correct?

He made some big plays. I think that's the difference. He flashed. In their scrimmage before the first preseason game, he also had a 50-yard TD that made Reid say his arm is "well above average." But I agree with Alo (and you, actually) that he also crashed (!). He wasn't Mister August.

And we can leave both in the deep freeze for a while.

Watch the video. That play didn't go for a TD, so he has 1 TD (or you can do what I did and pull his stats from NFL.com).

He made a big play with the game winning TD pass. I have a hard time calling hitting a wide open guy, on broken coverage, with a 20/25 yard in the air pass being up there so long, making big plays.

I don't really care what anyone does in a scrimage. A QB in the scrimage is wearing the red jersey. Quinn had a giant pass play in a scrimage, as others have pointed out when you first brought that one up.

I'm not sure Quinn affects the comparison, though, M. They both played in scrimmages with red jerseys. Kafka had a 50 yard bomb for a TD while McCoy had two picks.

Neither was perfect but Kafka did more, made more plays. I'd give Kafka the edge.
