Default Mc Coy & #3 for Kafka

After all the 2's Kafka put up last night against the Bungles maybe we should up that offer to Mc Coy & #2

Yeah, he didn't do much. But I'm staying out on that limb: I like him. I think he's gonna be good. It's just about watching him a lot and getting the sense that he's an NFL quarterback. I'm not really shocked at a bad game here or there.

I'm bummed that we'll basically never see McCoy play before the draft next April, except a couple series here and there. If I only knew what I know now, there'd be zero doubt that we'd go QB in round one in 2011.

Thanks Shep. I was out to bust your chops, and you manned up in your response. I very much respect that. It's way early and we will see as it plays out.

We need Shep to stop pimping the Metamorphosis. Once he kicked up the Kafka talk, Franz started looking like Brady Quinn. ()

Like virtually ever other rookie spread QB, Kafka didn't look like he knew what the hell he was doing. He had trouble locating his receivers, forced the ball into tight windows (one of his picks), and was inaccurate on a couple throws, including one of his picks. One of his wounded deep balls should have been picked, but the defensive back lost it in the lights.

Like virtually everyone else here, I still think Kafka can be a good QB. But he shares so many similarities with McCoy that I can't argue the Browns picked the wrong guy, even if I was more excited before the draft about Franz than Freckles.

Kafka looked lost last night.. It's early.. but I would expect improvement not regression.. but you'll get that with later round rookies. Let's home McCoy takes a step forward and not toward Kafka.. I don't know how much time he'll get tonight.. I hear it won't be much.

In your humble opinion, who is better looking?

IMO, Kafka has that classic square jaw handsome look from the old days, but Colty is cute as a button.

It seems none of the rooks we've been following played well. Bradford looked terrible/ lost.... against us going 6 of 12 for 24 yards. Kafka looked lost last night going 4 of 12 for 29 yards and 2 picks.. . Claustrich played lousy tonight 9 of 22 for 72 yards and a pick. McCoy only threw 2 passes but went 0-2.. Sanchez seems to THINK he's a rookie again or something as he went 5 of 10 for a whopping 12 yards... THAT won't get the Jets to a championship.

So let's just agree.. there is a HUGE learning curve from college to the nfl..For #1 draft picks and for 3rd round and later draft picks... and not just when your a rookie either..right Sanchez whew.. 5 completions for 12 yards.. Braylon must be overjoyed he got traded for that.

I said it already but again, the Jets will not make the AFCCG, and it they will suffer because teams will make Sanchez beat them. He is the kind of QB I like in that he can make plays, but he takes a step back this year.

Clausen wasn't very impressive. He did display good mobility, eluding a couple sacks and running for a first down. But he repeatedly stared down his receivers, leading to a batted down pass, a pick, and another near interception.

He needs to learn that he can't force those throws in there. And even when he made good decisions, he struggled with his accuracy (a lot of high throws). That 9/22 stat is especially bad, given that all but one or two of his throws were within ten yards of the LOS.

Matt Moore wasn't great either, but Clausen isn't at all pushing him for the starting job.

I just listened to Adam Caplan talk about the top five rookie QBs. Because he's based in Philly, his comments on Kafka were particularly noteworthy.

According to Caplan, Kafka's arm is not that strong, noting that "he needs to manipulate his body to get it out there". The team expects for him to be the #2 QB next year, but Caplan thinks they'd have to cut the vertical passing chapter of the playbook out if Kafka's forced on the field.

The 2nd to last sentence is exactly why I wouldn't have minded having Kafka in a later round. He's not going to be a guy that can throw down the field, but his accuracy is good enough to complete passes in a scheme that features more horizontal routes, sort of like in Indianapolis. I think if he got to play instead of Painter, he'd look a lot better throwing those routes underneath the LB's and Safeties and making plays.
