Default Rookie QBs Around the League

We've already started talking about some of the rookie QBs playing for other squads, and I suspect we'll do more of it as we get deeper into the pre-season.

In order to prevent any unnecessary conflicts -- both of the "this is a board about Browns football" and "the draft was in April, get over it" variety -- I'm setting up this thread as the spot for non-Colt McCoy rookie QB discussion.

I'll be very active in this thread; I did more work on the most recent QB class than in any previous year, so I'm curious to see how they all look. Also, I'll move other posts/threads into this spot to make sure the board runs more smoothly.

Please try to keep things classy and avoid any nasty recriminations. This is a thread for folks who love cute-looking signal callers with big biceps, not people looking to pick a fight.

-Aaron

Thank you Aaron. Your foresight is very admirable.

This should be a fun thread to follow.

Im interested in seeing how things play out for Tony Pike. He was one of my favorite QB's of the class and even though he's competing with Jimmy Claussen, if he can impress, there isn't a ton of QB competition that Pike could win it out but he's got to usurp Matt Moore who is a much better QB than a lot of people give him credit for.

In my opinion, if we're replacing Colt McCoy, you aim higher than Colt... Flynn or RGIII don't really give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Clausen and Kafka both did very well in their first exposure. Clausen was like 6 of 10 for 75 yards and got a lot of love from the announcers for handling the Ravens pressure. Second half it was pouring and he threw a pick I didn't actually see because I had to take a phone call (I was in a hotel room). Kafka led a comeback win with two scoring drives. He was 3 of 7 for 73 yards, no picks.

McCoy's up next.

Here's Kafka's 57 yard completion last night. He had a 50 yarder in practice on Thursday. Reid says his arm is "way better than average," something that looks pretty well settled now...

NFL Videos: Mike Kafka 57-yard pass

Yeah, see, I'm not a fan of Pike. His throwing motion is ugly, and he makes bad decisions. He really benefited from playing against some of the worst defenses in the country and having a very smart offensive minded coach.

Kafka vs. Jacksonville

I'd still like to see Kafka prove he can stretch defenses vertically. It was a problem area for him in college, so it needs to be dispelled in live game action.

But it was a fairly good start to his NFL career.

Damn, he had two drops, too? He looked really sharp. I love his compact throwing motion and he clearly has plenty of arm, as Reid said. He's got more arm than I thought, which is why some people were surprised at his workout.

One record: He's the steal of this draft.

Kafka's got some Hasselbeck in him. Hopefully, he'll get some looks against 2nd team guys next week.

After one week, I'd say Kafka looked best, then maybe a tie between Clausen and Bradford. I won't talk about McCoy at all.

Champ of the preseason: Sage Rosenfels, with 310 passing yards. Uh, maybe it ISN'T Tarvarius time.

That would explain that odd waddle onto the field.....

Shouldn't have made that joke huh?
