LeGarrette Blount throws a jab, again Posted by Mike Florio on August 18, 2010 11:04 PM ET Last year, former Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount rocked the college football world by throwing a sucker punch at a helmetless foe after a loss to Boise State. This year, Blount is at it again. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Blount punched defensive end Eric Bakhtiari after the final play of practice. This time around, the guy on the receiving end was wearing a helmet; Blount's punch connected with Bakhtiari's facemask. That said, Wyatt reports that the punch was "eerily similar" to the right jab Blount threw last year. "I promised to [coach Jeff Fisher] it was behind me and that was in my past and it just came up again,'' Blount said after practice. "I got into a situation where the defense pushed me too far.'' But Fisher didn't seem to be upset. "I am not disappointed whatsoever,'' Fisher said. "His past is his past. Is that the first punch you've seen at camp this year? No. OK. I am not disappointed whatsoever. I have great confidence in the young man that he has learned from his mistake and is very competitive.'' The punch was part of an intense practice with, per Wyatt, "numerous" shoving matches. |

Punches get thrown all the time in practices, so that's not a really big deal. But that explanation leaves a lot to be desired....

Any other guy, no big deal. But punching really isn't part of football. Shoving and yelling, I get. When you actually start throwing punches, I think you're asking for a meeting somewhere else later. I would remember something like that for sure.

I beg to differ Shep. Punching, while not having a place in the sport like hockey does, and certainly doesn't have a place in a game situation where a penalty or ejection could really hurt your team. In practice it's an entirely different animal. Especially in the trenches. Offensive linemen get away with obscene amounts of holding in practice because there is no ref there to call a flag, this leads to pissed off defensive linemen, and eventually there's fists thrown. It happened every year I've ever played. It's hot everybody is super tired, and patience is thin. Much different than the climate of mid autumn when you're not doing two a days

| Come on, Sean. We don't care about football out here. When does tennis season start? |

Tennis has a season? I just thought it was whenever you guys got done with your Martini's. The order of football dominance by state goes like this. Florida Texas Ohio Pennsylvania California. High schools in florida are nuts about football, they let those guys practice practically year round...
