Browns make practice squad moves

Posted 13 hours ago

The Browns made four transactions on the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday evening.

The Cleveland Browns today signed running back Thomas Clayton and defensive back DeAndre Wright to the practice squad, the team announced. In addition, the team waived running back Andre Anderson and defensive back DeAngelo Smith from the practice squad.

Originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft, Clayton spent the entire 2007 season and the first 14 weeks of the 2008 season on the 49ers’ practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster for the final two games. He then spent the entire 2009 season on injured reserve.

Clayton signed with the New England Patriots as a free agent on June 11, 2010 and was waived on September 4. A three-year letterman at Kansas State (2004-06), he saw action in 28 games, recording 1,075 yards on 232 carries with seven touchdowns.

Born on April 26, 1984, the 5-11, 220-pound Clayton is a native of Alexandria, Va., where he attended Mt. Vernon High School.

Originally drafted by the New York Giants in the sixth round (200th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, Wright spent time on the practice squads of the Giants, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings before being waived by the Vikings on September 4, 2010. A four-year letterman at the University of New Mexico (2005-08), Wright started 43 of his 48 career games, ending his collegiate career with 10 interceptions and tied for sixth in school history with 25 passes defensed. Born on April 13, 1986, the 5-11, 190-pound Wright is a native of Clinton, Md., where he attended Gwynn Park High School.
