But how this season goes and where we draft will have a lot more to do with when/if we draft a qb next year than anything Colt will do from now until then.

Golf, I think the one guy who could stop the Browns from drafting a round one quarterback in 2011... is Wallace. Delhomme being good doesn't stop him from being 36 when next season starts, and the Browns need to have a big-time starter ready to go by 2012 or we could waste a pretty promising "window." Wallace is 30, so if he looked like a serious full-time starter during the year, that could change the strategy a little. He could start for the next 5-7 years. |

Keep in mind, before next pre-season they are going to see McCoy in practices all this season, plus offseason work. A lot happens between now and next draft. The scouts, coaches, and FO see far more each day, and every day from now until next April than just 4 preseason games.

If McCoy isn't showing the staff something before we hit this upcoming offseason, then there isn't a QB on our current roster that stops us from looking for our franchise guy in next year's draft. Period. It isn't Wallace. (Understanding Shep's point that if there is one, its his opinion the only possible one would be Wallce.) It isn't Jake. (Too old.) Its probably not McCoy. (He's a third round draft pick which makes him a long shot to be a franchise QB...... which we all knew.) I don't care as there wasn't a franchise QB to be had outside the first pick this past year. So, we did what any well-run team would do: found a bridge to the future WITH depth (Jake and Seneca), took a bet on a long shot (McCoy) and strengthened other parts of the team (Haden, Hardesty, Ward, etc.). Can't wait for the regular season! |

McCoy isnt going anywhere at least not yet.. And i hope the kid can prove shep wrong and at least become a viable trade option.. It doesnt matter that colt is playing with a bad cast of 2nd unit players particularly the linemen, colt still needs to find a way to make himself stand out from other 3rd round QB picks he has great feet and a fairly decent arm now he needs to show us and the coaches that he can thrive in a bad situation, think fast, read fast and then make good decisions... He seems to keep a good grip on the ball when being blindsided and obviously isnt a fumbler and i see good characteristics in his feet he is very fast and mobile but seems to need to plant to get anything on the ball as he doesnt seem to throw with authority on the move like seneca wallace can.. We havent seen enough of him to call him a bust yet nor has he had enough time to fully comprehend dabolls system ,reading those tricky pro defenses even in vanilla or how fast things happen in the nfl.. He looks to me like he is trying to hard to not make a mistake less he be roasted alive and that just seems to be part of the "mangini newbie QB process" throwing the hailmary out of bounds with no time shows he doesnt want to get picked off but he should have known nobody counts a last chance hailmary pick and a TD would have made him a hero...a really bad decision there..

If we are drafting in the late teens to mid 20s, then there may not be a QB worth taking there. And I think that is a possibility.

M, all McCoy's really gonna do after the preseason is run scout team while we do more game specific practicing. And there isn't much action prior to the draft, with the minicamps and OTAs coming AFTER. I've said this for a while, and it still seems logical to me: Colt had to at least flash some this preseason. He can impress with his demeanor and work ethic, etc., but I don't think that's gonna be enough to not draft Luck or Locker or whomever. |
