Look, 13 of 13 is a really good thing no matter how you do it. But McCoy did it by dumping off to James Davis who got like 65 yards on five passes totaling 10 yards in the air. If Quinn did that, we'd be bitching. Leinart DID do that (19 of 23 for the preseason) and he got eaten alive here.

According to Steve D., the best part was that McCoy didn't seem as disoriented out there. He did not sling the ball downfield like Kafka and even Tebow have shown off this preseason. I would've LOVED to have seen a ball 30 yards in the air for a completion... but that'll have to wait.

I feel a little better. I do. He was looking like a train wreck and needed to show some hope... and he did.

I agree to a point shep. the difference between Leinarts 19 0f 23 and colts 13 of 13 is the fact that Leinart is in his 5th season and McCoy is in his first.
Same thing with Quinn, and heck even Frye.

If McCoy still looks like thios same QB in his 2nd or 3rd season on the team, then you really start to worry.

Great point Golfer.

To add on, when comparing Kafka and McCoy, at least yesterday, you have to also look at what the D was giving. For most of McCoy's time, the D was playing zone and giving the underneith. There weren't a lot of throws to be had down field w/o forcing the issue. Not saying there were no chances, as there were. McCoy needs to get better at presnap read and anticipation of the WR getting open, rather than waiting for them to get open. There is tons of room to grow and improve. I will be more interested in how he looks come this time next year than I am about how he looks in the here and now.

100% agree on the bolded statement. It's what Quinn still hasn't mastered. I pointed it out in a thread about Delhomme earlier where he threw a backshoulder pass to Robiskie. You have to throw those passes to a guy that doesn't exactly look wide open to most of us to suceed in this league. back shoulder, over the linebackers head to a TE going up the seam ect.

Very true. Those are the throws where the WR is turning and the ball is already on it's way.

Now that this is settled can we go back to talking about Anderson and Quinn?

We can put a button on McCoy, because he's probably not relevant until next draft season.

I'd look at the whole of his work in preseason as more questions than answers: Can he master the pro style offense... and does he have an NFL arm? Can he be more than a backup? Can he be a longterm starter and winner in the NFL?

I have serious doubts. That's where I am now. Onto the season! Go Jake and Seneca!

I didn't know McCoy was married. That will more than likely keep him focused. It does make a difference as was pointed out earlier.. I am glad McCoy had a solid game.. As Shep said not a "shut up" game to the media.. but will get them off of his back for a while at least.. I want to see what it looks like when I get to see it tomorrow. I am sure it's not pretty.. we all know he's a project..but you have to at least like that he seems to be progressing.. How much can he learn running the scout team? It's kind of up to him. He seems like a very motivated guy so I am sure he will spend this year working hard. Its very hard to predict what happens next spring. It will really depend a lot on what delhomme does or does not do this year (wallace too).
