Default McCoy Rumors

The purpose of this thread is not any personal desire to bury McCoy.

and this is from a dubious source ....Bruce Drennen, on whatever he calls his late night show on Fox Sports Ohio......

Anyhow, Drennen (and yahoo sports?) have speculated that McCoy may not make the final roster. Drennens main lucid pont - Holmgren's statement that he likes to draft a QB every year. Drennen also pointed to a Canton Repository article. Browns' McCoy is in a fight for QB job - Canton, OH - CantonRep.com

Some think Ratcliff/McCoy is a toss up.

I am betting against this, because Holmgren up front talked about taking a couple years to get McCoy ready, and also he spent a 3rd round pick on McCoy.

McCoy has been underwhelming, but he has had the 3rd string line and 3rd string backs.

What say you?

McCoy rumour:

If Colt McCoy punches you in the face, you would have to fight off the strong urge to thank him.

Freckles McBubble Boy?

He'll make the team. If he'd worn another jersey (like Ratliff's)? No way.

Bruce Drennen doesn't have a clue. McCoy makes the team without any doubt. Even Shep agrees with that.

Why so many posts about a 3rd round pick who the front office said isn't playing this year anyway is way beyond my comprehension.

To most Brown's fans, except Shep, the 3rd string QB situation is usually, who the fuck cares. Even if they draft a QB next year and the year after it really doesn't mean shit until one works his way into the lineup. So, I don't care if it's McCoy, Kafka or LeFavour. It really doesn't matter and isn't going to translate into any wins or loses.

It's just another mid round draft pick a team took a flyer on. He was worth the pick and only time will tell if he has a future as an NFL QB.

I hear we're going to trade Freckles, Cribbs, and Thomas for Mike Kafka.

Oh crap, we better watch out for that steal of a trade! Hah!

This rumor couldn't die fast enough. Seriously, given the enthusiasm that Holmgren has seemed to have for McCoy it just would be aberrant if we got rid of him before the season even began. This season is NFL 101 for Colt, he's here to learn and he's here to study. It's not so much about playing the game as it is learning the system and observing the NFL game. I am willing to bet that by this time next year he will look like an entirely different QB.

We just have to give him some time to flourish, that's all. He's like a fish out of water right now, and we're all expecting him to learn to fly.

In my opinion, if we're replacing Colt McCoy, you aim higher than Colt... Flynn or RGIII don't really give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

If Ratliff was better at this stage maybe I'd buy it. He hasn't been much better after years in the system. McCoy has little exposure in the system. Ratliff doesn't have the luxury of that excuse. Doesn't say much about Colt per se, but it's saying enough about Ratliff.

McCoy makes the team, Holmgren isn't going to throw in the towel on a 3rd round pick at QB this soon. But if Holmgren takes another QB in the first 3 rounds of the next draft then Colt's in trouble.

keep in mind folks, last year at this time we had the choice of quinn/da/ratty

putting things in perspective means mc coy doesn't stand a chance in hell of beating out either of the top 2 qb's on our roster.

who gives a crap whether he's in or out? jd can last for 2 more years i would think and wallace another 2 past jd. franchise qb is a guy in the future. whether its mc coy or not is futile.

if anybody has a link to nekkid pics of his gal though....

Unfortunately for McCoy, the draft comes BEFORE next preseason, which we've brought up a lot here. What will the Browns have seen from him by the time they step to the podium with a chance to get a big-time quarterback (whoever it is)?

If all they see is this preseason? That sure as hell won't stop anybody from picking Locker, Luck, or whoever else rises (maybe Ponder).
