It is VERY early, but what the heck...
Haden will be the 3rd CB, and probably starter by mid-year Ward is the starting FS Hardesty is in the rotation at RB McCoy was never intended to even play this year, so no disappointment there Lauvao looks to be starting at RG Asante will make the squad a backup and ST player Mitchell just may make the team Geathers is probably the long shot of the group. NICE!!!

Swung and missed on Veikune, and I agree he needed a GM. But he isn't a horrible drafter. |

And only Mack out of any pick in last year's draft would be starting on any other team in the league. Maybe MoMass could be a no 2 on some other team. But here he's flying as our no 1..... and just cause he is doesn't mean he's cut out for the job. Don't sugar coat what looks to be a horrible draft from last year. | But on the other hand..we don't know that Momass isn't going to turn into an amazing beast of a #1 either. He had no one to throw him the ball OR learn from last year and still did nearly what Crabtree did who was the top WR in the draft. I'm not saying it's going to happen this year..he still has a TON to learn.. But he could progress ..physically he's got all the tools.. so.. I just say.. right NOW your right.. but that's not to say he cannot become that guy.. Steve Smith for Carolina sat on the bench several years before becoming a star #1 guy. (we could name others..he just came to mind).. Let's hope he takes a big step this year.. and a huge one in year 3.

Indeed, though as Vegas said, Mangini didn't do all that bad everything considered. He certainly did better then Phil Savage! I'll tell ya what this indicates to me. This indicates that Tom Heckert and his handpicked staff came as advertised. It's certainly REAL early to declare anything really, BUT from the early looks at things Heckert really IS a very, VERY good drafter. If Hardesty lights it up that's three straight hits, the project QB, then a hit with Lauvao. When was the last time we had a draft where four players could step in on day one and contribute? I will say, i'm excluding the later round guys from this evaluation. The later rounds are basically a crapshoot, you pick up some projects to work on. Sometimes they pan out, other times now. The bread and butter are rounds 2-5 with round 1 being the impact guy who you see as becoming elite. So far so good(when was the last time we could say that?) but DAMN i'm happy to have Tom Heckert in charge. A few more drafts like that and we'll be set for years. |

As for last year...
Robo is now a starter and looking sharp MoMass was a starter and still is at least a legit #2 Veikune has gotten press that he has improved as much as Robo Maiava is a backup, but playing Carey is gone Francies is still around Davis has a chance to get some carries this year (I think he sticks around) Elam and Coleman may not be stars, but they are starting for now In other words, we have 5 starters and at least 2 backups from that group. Not bad either.

The day after the draft when many on here were bashing the picks I made a thread saying we just got 4 guys who will start at some time this season. When you combine that with the 6-7 starters the Browns got in FA/trades this is going to be a much better team. I liked the draft a lot then and still do, well done Heckert! |

I don't think I sugarcoated anything. Just don't think he is a horrible a football guy as you imply. Opie did it 24-7 and Mangini was light years better. And he also had to coach. MoMass and Robo and Cribbs and Stuckey - hard to evaluate these guys with the pile of poo playing QB last season. That's not an opinion that's a fact. We don't have a #1 WR. But then again until Moss came to NE, Brady never had one either and he won 3 SB's. Hasn't won one since. |

As far as im concerned the jury is still out on last years draft picks including veikune either way last years draft is already better than anything savage produced minus joe thomas with mack alone... But this years draft under tom heckert i already deem a major success, heckert is the real deal and i like a gm thats not afraid to take a chance on guys under the radar with injury flags like ward and hardesty.. This kind of player is generally pro ready and battle hardened and will give it their all, they are usually impact players when healthy and love the game and thats why they get injured to begin with..

my comment was mostly tonge in cheek. i don't beleive any 1 person can nail a draft alone. His help drafting this past year shows consistancy that needs to be maintained for multiple drafts in a row. my only real beef from the first draft is the damn hawaiins. |
