True enough- but the only record of Browns that won't be beaten is his average ypc. But like it or not, it was a different era. Dick Modelewski played defensive end for the Browns in that time frame @ 230 pounds- where would a guy like that be playing in today's NFL?

Hoorta, you are correct that the ypc is the one record that won't be touched, and that's the record that's the most telling of his absolute dominance on the field.

And if Jim had played ball until his body said enough is enough then the other records would still be standing today, and that's with a 14 game season.

It's not even a question. Brown was the best to suit up.

Yeah you can say it was a different era and the defensive guys were smaller, but you can't penalize Brown because he played back then and not today.

List_of_NFL_records_held_by_Jerry_Rice List_of_NFL_records_held_by_Jerry_Rice

Personal favorites include:

Quote:
Only player with 17+ years experience to never be a part of a team that has been shutout in regular season or the postseason (his team however, has posted 10 shutouts in the same allotted time)
Quote:
Most records held by one player
*tilts head*

That's an effing long page.

Also, frightening:

Quote:
Oldest player to score (40 years, 105 days) - broken by Matt Stover (42 years, 11 days)
Shit. I now see why the 40-year-old virgin was worried.

That said, this obscenely long list makes it appear that Rice was, by far, the best. This is obviously not the case. He may be the best, he may not be, but it's a lot closer than this list makes it appear.
