Carlton Mitchell's biggest fear:

Cowboys still may trade or cut Patrick Crayton

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 2, 2010 1:34 PM ET
There's been talk about the Cowboys trading wide receiver Patrick Crayton since the day Dallas drafted Dez Bryant, and it apparently won't go away until the Cowboys cut Crayton, keep him on the 53-man roster, or find a trading partner.

Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com reports that the Cowboys are exploring the trade market for Crayton, and if they can't make a deal, there's a decent chance they'll cut him.

Crayton said in May that the Cowboys betrayed him and that he wanted to be released, but he later softened his stance, attended some voluntary workouts and promised not to be a complainer.

But with Miles Austin, Roy Williams and Dez Bryant all on the roster, there may not be any room for Crayton in Dallas. It's possible that he'll put on a Cowboys uniform for the last time tonight.

Crayton absolutely improves the receiving corps for Cleveland. He'd certainly be in the top 3.

I think some people have too high an opinion on Crayton because of residual hype from the 2007 Cowboys. Do I think that he would be in the top 3 of the Brown's receiving corps? Maybe. In his best year he caught 50 balls and had ~700 yards. Compared to what we had last year, that would seem great, but consider the fact that Crayton is 31 years old. He would be taking time from our young receivers who have already been showing improvement this year. I don't think that we'd be that much better off with Crayton in the slot rather than Stuckey, who I think is going to continue tracking upwards like he was before getting traded to us last year.

There are going to be a few guys out there. patrick Crayton is a bubble guy for dallas who brings more than those 3.. I can't think of any others.. but every year there are a few. It tdepends on how fast you move and do they want to play here.

Great point. I didn't realize he was that old. Yeah I'd rather not take time away from our young guys.

Personally I'm A-ok with rolling with MoMass, Robiskie and Cribbs.

I think they are going to surprise a lot of people now that we have a QB with poise and accuracy and a professional demeanor in the huddle.

By mid season people will be saying "Who knew these guys could actually play WR?!?"

I got to hope there is a better solution then Mitchell as our #5 WR. I'd be OK with him being signed to the practice squad but if comes down to Mitchell and Engram I'd rather Engram get out of his rocking chair and suit up for us.

Engram can find a hole in the seam and set down in it and also has some nice hands. then again, Engram at 37 isn't going to play much special teams so Mangini isn't going to want to keep a guy as a #5 WR who can't get on the field as a special teamer.

How about just keep Alex Smith and call Moore a hybrid WR/TE. I'm good with 4 WRs as long as we have someone on the practice squad to reach to if there is an injury. WE play more 2TE formations then we do spreading the filed anyway so Moore split out or in the slot works for me as a hybrid WR/TE. That makes Alex Smith a hybrid FB/TE and and Smith can play special teams pretty well.

Zac Jackson thinks the Browns might put in a claim for rookie WR Dez Briscoe, who was released by the Bengals.
