Free agency has been a very tricky science for the Cleveland Browns the last 11 years. Guys coming here to get their dream salaries seem to be doing so with the understanding that all their hard work is behind them. There's also been instances of bad luck/freak injuries. Here's some Savage era names that impacted salary cap and short term planning without the upside: Jason Fisk, Trent Dilfer, Joe Andruzzi, Cosey Coleman, Donte Stallworth, Joe Jurevicius (when he wasn't healthy neither were we), Antwaan Peek, Ted Washington, Shaun Smith, Corey Williams, Dave Zastudil, Kevin Shaffer, Willie McGinest (loved him when healthy), Andra Davis (priority #1 was a contract extension for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hides?), Antonio Bryant (bad attitude + dropsies). Bad luck guys: Gary Baxter, Matt Stewart & LeCharles Bentley. Bad luck or not, it's easier to lose a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick when they're unproven than it is to lose a guy at a position we thought was accounted for on draft day because of the FA commitments we've planned on for the season. KILLS your franchise. How many Centers did we audition after Bentley blew out a wheel? 5 or 6 before we had to BEG Philly for a Center they already replaced with a younger upgrade? And before the Savage era I remembered renaming Lomas Brown to No Mas Brown. Here's the thing - the Saints got Bentley near the end of round 2 the same year we took Melvin Fowler near the top of round 3. Upper round 2 would have been a STEAL at far less cake commitment for the exchange value the Saints received. It's been tiring watching 1 FA hotshot after another coming here feeling like they're finally rewarded for all their hard work elsewhere. The problem? They completely forget the generous team that's WILLING to pay them wants to receive an exchange value on the field. One that's so much greater than a millionaire RB complaining about a 3 hour work day in public after a Sunday that our defense wasn't tackling very well. - Tom F.

When TJ Howsyourmama was with Cincy I thought he was there #1 over #85. Chad had the ego and brashness of a #1 but TJ seemed to put the numbers up on the field and drew more double coverage then Chad did. I thought he was a super receiver when he was at Cincy but don't really know what happened to him once he got to Seattle. I lost tract of him last year. It would be interesting t see where he is physically and why the sudden drop from stardom. What's he got left and how much would it cost? If this man is right he's more then a #3. We got Robo, Stuckey and Cribbs as #3s. We need a dependable WR that can get open against a cover 2 zone and run after the catch. Then again, maybe we already do in Evan Moore. So, can TJ spread the field because that's where our problem is? |

If Seattle releases him then they must settle up with him on all his guaranteed money. Thus he is a FA and without a contract. Then again why would a veteran FA want to come to a rebuilding team to be a backup WR. Personally, I don't think the Browns are looking for another WR. There will be plenty of guys that they can sign to the practice squad including Mitchell. |

WHY do you think Seattle is dumping him.. He has lost his game... Stick a fork in him, he's done.. Another case of an old guy taking time from the development of our young guys. If he would be the difference in a superbowl.. sure.. that's not the case. He's a bandaid..we need a cure... . If we get someone.. lets bring in a young guy who can compete and be around for a while while be build this beast that will again be THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!!!

Take him or leave him, I say. He was good in Cinci and it probably didn't hurt having a WR like #85 across from him also. When he went to Seattle, I remembered reading a article in Pro Football Weekly's season preview for 2009 about how they feared Seattle's system would stifle Houshmazadeh's production and sure enough that's exactly what's happened. He's still a talented WR but a bona fide #1? I don't know. He's turning 33, his prime is behind him. I feel good with what we've got at WR rather than overpaying to take a chance that an aging veteran could elevate our team.

The Seattle Seahawks have released WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, reports ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
