Sometimes you have too much of a one track mind in how you look at football. We have three pretty solid WR's to develop. You can't deny that. We also had piss poor DB's and we just added three starters. No matter how much you dislike the high pick for Haden, he is a good player and it was a high need, and he did very well in preseason. He showed he belongs.

It has always seemed that the players you didn't want high in the draft "could be found in the 3rd-6th rounds." I understand your one track mind works this way but damn if you can't learn to let your mind grasp that every position can be found in every round. The best C? First round. The best CB? First round. The best LT? First round. We have possibly 2 of those 3 ON OUR ROSTER RIGHT NOW.

You don't have to look at it as teams got stronger and we stayed put. That is not only wrong it's more hyperbole. We improved at QB and OL and RB and by association WR. We are better. You admitted this already.

We can find QB's after the first round and debate that too. Stars are stars are stars....and you find most in the first round. To say we could have found a C after round 1 is misleading. We didn't have a good C and taking one in the first round solidified that spot. Guess that is yet another spot we don't have to discuss anymore because that dude is a stud.

Shipley lit it up? He is a slow slot WR that would play where Stuckey plays. Stuckey is better in that spot. You think Shipley lights it up in Cleveland just because he is Shipley? He isn't that good. They threw him the ball because he needs the work, not because he stole the show.

Look forward man. The season starts and you're still stuck on Haden vs Spiller/Bryant, and McCoy not looking like a starter after 4 quarters. Meanwhile Leinhart gets a pass after crap performances after 17 games because someone doesn't like him.

I think you strayed wildly, Veg. I liked a point buried in there, but you got all off on stuff I didn't say (3rd to 6th rounds) and stuff from other topics that isn't really salient here (McCoy).

The point is, it's a quarterback league and a passing league... and most people think the best defense against it is a pass rush. We committed the highest picks to supporting roles, not quarterback (Sanchez or Clausen), #1 WR (like Bryant), franchise running back (like Spiller), or pass rusher (like Clay M. or the Michigan kid or one of several others in rounds 1 or 2).

I don't dislike every pick. I don't have any problem with a 2nd round center or corner. I have a problem with no passers, pass catchers, or pass rushers in the first round of the last two drafts, given that it's the name of the game and we already have the left tackle.

I do think we're better. It's just a fairly specific team-building philosophy I don't agree with. Now, we may draft/sign passcatchers and pass rushers and find a better long-term quarterback next offseason and it'll all look like a plan to me.

And yes, I acknowledge that perhaps neither Sanchez or Clausen would have been the man... but it's just part of my larger point about passing, catching, and rushing the passer.

Remember the season before we picked up Fraley? We had to try like 4 different guys at center in training camp and it was A HUGE MESS.

Not to mention the gems we've uncovered who weren't even drafted. I just don't get the dislike, especially after the putrid drafts of years past. To each his own.

We can't fix everything in 2 drafts, but we are well on our way.
Truer words have never been spoken. It's easy to sit back and say we should've drafted this, or that, or went the Matt Millen route and attempted to stock one or two positions with "star power" and all that. Not sure how Sanchez the underwear model plays into any of it considering the Notre Dame bodybuilder we blew two firsts on was still on the roster while EVERYONE wanted him to "get his shot."

The reality of the matter is this team was so utterly lacking in talent it's not even funny. Pretty much a #2 CB, #2 RB, LT, FB and kick returner is IT. The average age of the O.L. was what, 32? 33 years old with J.T. as the young buck? The whole team needed rebuilt and Gabe's right, you start by shorting up the boring positions AKA "THE Foundation." So far so good, the D is improving albeit slowly, we have a good, solid #2 WR as well as two really good slot guys, the O.L. is almost rebuilt, ect. We're almost to the point adding the sexy picks makes sense, but not quite. Personally i'd rather wait until we have a top 5 D, top 5 O.L. and top 10 run game before capping it off with a beast #1 WR and QueBee, but like Gabe says to each their own. Some believe in the system and want an all around badass team, others... Well others seem to want us to make every game a 58-42 shootout.

I'm guessing they're looking at him as a DE.

Well that would be at least playing him to his strengths as opposed to trying to teach him to be an ILB...

In my opinion, if we're replacing Colt McCoy, you aim higher than Colt... Flynn or RGIII don't really give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.
