Default Fairytale Story Lines

Envision good things... envision good things...

If the Browns become a happy tale in 2010, I think we'll be talking about one or more of the following:

1. Jake Delhomme. He's a likable, affable guy, a good interview, Brett Favre without the Asshole Factor. If he plays good football in the first couple games, watch for a lot of face time on ESPN. Everybody loves a veteran QB comeback story... especially if the guy is someone like Delhomme.

2. "Amazing" Happens. Cribbs can barely contain himself from discussing the packages with him and Seneca, but he did drop the "A word" to Jim Rome. It's going to happen... a lot. It could easily become the signature of the 2010 Browns.

3. Moore and Hillis. Couple white boys who weren't valued by previous teams look to be major components in the Browns "safe and efficient" passing offense. Hillis has that videogenic rock star pose after every first down and Moore makes great catches. I could see the two guys getting linked in the media.

4. Ryan is a Genius! I say this because nobody on the national level thinks much of the Browns defensive personnel. They say the line is old, the linebackers are slow, and the DBs are young, old, slow, and underperformed in the preseason. If the Browns suddenly play well on defense against a couple bad offenses (TB and KC), we'll hear less about the players and more about Ryan.

5. The OL. Not really a very sexy story, but the one place the media DOES give props to the Browns is the OL. The Best Case Scenario fell into place with Lauvao and Pashos, so now the line is relatively young, too (senior citizens Steinbach and Pashos are all of like 30, the other three are infants).

Seriously?

I'll delete it... but it sure as hell wasn't ignorant. Nobody denies what I joked about, even the Republicans. It's a scorched earth policy.

Precedent or president?

I just realized you're the Sarah Silverman of the board. You say things straight to illustrate their absurdity. I like that angle.

Good point made here about the physicality of the Browns (Thomas followed by Vickers followed by Hillis... Rubin or Rogers followed by Roth).

Just watch. The media says we have shit personnel on D... the Browns D plays well... Ryan must be a genius!!

Player recognition will follow, of course.

So essentially Ryan gets a pass. If the D sucks.. they were right and Ryan can't do anything because he has crap to work with.. or if they play well ..He's the genius?

.. Frankly.. I'm in the first camp Old DL, slow LB's and young DB's. ... that and we have not played very well in the past. We are traditionally lousy against the run, pass and no pass rush.. I'm not sure we made enough changes to deal with that because IMO if you run a 3-4.. everything plays off the 3 guys up front.. I am not convinced we have much of anything up there.. Same spots we have ignored for years... I hope I'm wrong. But i'm not sure the back 8 can make up for the poor front 3.

Yep..... Yep.... That's pretty much where it is at. The entire D.L. as well as LB corps pretty much needs rebuilt from the ground up.

Yeah, you look at the other 3-4 teams, they all seem to have a couple really special linebackers. We don't have that.

I'm less worried about the 3 guys up front and HIGHLY concerned about the lack of playmakers in the group of 4 guys behind them. To Shep's point, the good 3-4's have at LEAST 2 LB's that qualify as playmakers (e.g., tackles for loss, sacks, INTs, forced fumbles, passes defensed).

This sort of eliminates D'Quell I-tackle-after-they've-gained-four-yards Jackson for example.
