According to the Browns injury report released yesterday, DQJ was the only player ruled out for Sunday's Game against the TB Bucs. Sorenson won't play either because he still hasn't practiced since he was KO'd in the Detroit game but wasn't ruled out yet.

before anyone throws Ryan under the buss for his Raiders days...just keep in mind your thoughts and comments about the guy in charge over there during the off-season. Al Davis has destroyed more coaches and assistant coaches through bad drafting, terrible trades, and meddling than any owner I can think of. And for Ryan to not only survive as long as he did, but to actually catch several teams eyes for being talented really says a lot about the guy. His schemes are all that kept the Browns in games last year. We had zero talent and even less depth on D and he still got it done, especially down the stretch. I think what we saw in preseason was the Browns doing what GOOD teams do...try out the new guys and new schemes so they know what works ON TOP OF the base package. I really think the Browns D is going to surprise a lot of you, and a lot of teams, this year.

| If Andra Davis and Wali Ranier didn't accomplish this, they came close.......

| I agree 100%. The main reason I have been so spiteful of the Kellen Winslow trade was because he was that kind of our player on offense. He may have had his gripes with the team but when he was on the field he played to win and he made everyone as worked up as he was. That kind of player is the kind of player we need on defense. We have some personalities who might be able to grow into that archetype but it's just a matter of taking the initiative to rally the troops. I agree that we need a 'motivational leader' on defense.

Wali.. not even remotely close. In 2001, his "best year," he had 82 tackles. Ray Lewis had 161. |

What about the 3-4? Seems like an ILB leading the league in tackles in the 3-4... and when he's gone a SAFETY has to make the tackles... that's tough to take. |

2005 - 27th (25th) 2006 - 3rd (25th) 2007 - 22nd (31st) 2008 - 27th (31st) My problem with Ryan (the Rob version, not the Rex version) is he never seems to develop a scheme to stop the run. He was there for 5 seasons and his run defense got worse, not better. Now I understand players are needed and skill players matter, but it seems to me that his defenses give up big runs because guys "are not in their fits" or because of people out of position. Now being a Browns fan I tend to give the benefit of the doubt anyway, so I am pulling for Rob. He is a likeable guy and a great interview, and many players who speak about him call him a brain, and a good defensive strategist. Could also be he is very cool to play for, too. Anyway, the fact of the matter is in this division you need to stop the run. Plain and simple, the AFCN features cold weather teams that like to run the ball. I look at the numbers and the defense vs the run got worse? How does that happen? Skill players alone cannot be used as an excuse - this is the NFL, so make it happen. |

And back to DQJ - he certainly is a starter in this league, and I buy the notion that he needs a "Lewis" next to him vs him assuming the role of he "Lewis." DQJ just doesn't pop off the page much. He is more of a clean up tackler rather than a playmaker. Hopefully some of the new LB's help him get into position more to make plays, because he certainly doesn't make a lot of them. He is just a step above Andra Davis. I think we were all happy to see him start. Tackles are a lot like completed passes. If you dink and dunk for yardage, but no points? Well it's like tackles without the playmaking. |
