At the Combine, TJ Ward ran a 4.68 40 and posted a 34" vertical. If "ATHLETE" was your sole criterion, you would have hated that pick.

Would've loved Taylor Mays though! 4.3 40 wasn't it? 4.3 40 and can't crack the starting lineup.

They let TB run the ball right down their throat and take 4 minutes off the clock. Not sure how blown coverage should make me feel better about the D. That just adds to issues on this D. Some pieces are better, but it's still got major issues imo. I still believe the scheme and the designer of the scheme is questionable.
I think you and I expect a lot from the D and maybe were asking too much. I don't think so, but .....

He had a 4.46 40 in his pro day, he was still recovering from injury, and I could have sworn he had a great 3-cone at his pro day as well

Pro day 40 times can be deceptive because they're usually on a fast track. Same thing with 3-cone times because they use smaller cones.

Sadly I didn't expect much from this D, but I don't think we are asking for too much.

Of course "Athlete" isnt the sole criterion, theres alot of "Athletes" that are graded to be in rounds 6 and 7 for a reason, whereas there are "Athletes" in rounds 1 and 2.

Take a look at Randy Moss, Amazing Athlete, went in the first round, lets try and replicate that, lets try and find a HOF'er someone with intelligence, athleticism, and skill

not just intelligence and character

you can teach someone how to run better routes, you can teach someone how to beat press coverage, you can get better at catching, and you can get stronger....

But speed, body control, size, and amazing coordination are things you cant teach

You know what, I don't care if it's the NFL, the CFL, or Arena league, you need to know you can count on your defense to make big stops when you need them to. We needed our D to come up big for us yesterday so we had a chance to win that.

I would argue that fumble that lost us 20 some odd yards did more to damage our chances of winning than any stops the defenses failed to make.

Yeah, we got burned thrice by Anquan Boldin but hey, at least the defensive masterminds on this team will have someone to plan against next time we play the Ravens at our home.

We had at least two solid chances to stop the Ravens in the 4th quarter, and we had two solid opportunities of our own to take that game back. We couldn't capitalize on either of them. Does that make the Ravens the better team "yes" since they won, but I don't think we made it easy for them, not until the fourth quarter of the game anyway when we might as well have just given the ball and said "Take it"

Up to that point, we were in the heat of the game, fighting to win. THATS all I've wanted to see us do so far. So, in light of that, I think it was a good game.
