[gdwl]In Tuesday night's press conference love letter to Michael Vick, Andy Reid repeatedly said the Eagles change at quarterback wasn't about Kevin Kolb. Reid thinks Vick is one of the best quarterbacks in the league; Vick has to prove Reid right. In a conversation with SI's Peter King, however, Reid allowed that there were other reasons for the switch. He was worried about how Kolb would be treated as a starter. "A young quarterback needs time to mature as he grows in the game. I don't think Kolb has lost one thing. He's a franchise quarterback. He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles," Reid said before getting to the good stuff. "But I think it's a different deal when you go out there and can't make a mistake or you're going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.'' I was all for the change. You play the best guy. But it's somewhat remarkable to hear Reid admit that the reaction of the media and especially fans played a role in the decision. [/gdwl] Why do our coaches always beat around the bush? When you come out, tell the truth, and put everything out there the fans, the media, and the players respect you for it. This makes me realize that we have had some shit coaches, this is how you handle a QB controversy. Reid benched Kolb for the reason he should bench Kolb... because he likes him, because sometimes you have to live to die another day. If Kolb would have had 1 bad game, he wouldve gotten hell from EVERYONE thus killing his confidence, and people would be screaming Vicks name. Thats the mistake we always make here in cleveland, we say bullshit like "its a competition" "best man wins" "flip a coin" "were gonna go with so and so because of blah blah blah" Just tell it like it is, Kudos to Reid, no other coach would have the balls to say that

I'm not sure I fully understand the Kolb situation yet. They traded McNabb because they loved Kolb SO much. They said it was already "his team" last year. They loved him in practice. Tom Heckert, pretty well respected as a talent evaluator, thinks he's the bee's knees. So the guy plays 2 quarters, get his head smashed... and now all that's changed? They're worried that the fans will be mean to him? And why say he's the starter as soon as he's healthy... and then say he's healthy... but reverse field and say Vick's the starter for the foreseeable future? I actually think this sounds VERY Browns-esque. And I don't completely get it. I get that sense that something's going on internally and Kolb lost his biggest cheerleader (Heckert). |

I still like Mike Heimerdinger as HC, too bad we cant get Jeremy Bates as our OC, seattle already scooped him up, he's gonna be a good one... they are all on the Walsh tree like Holmgren, although I really like the branch thats starting to stem from Shannahan, it seems to be synonymous with winning I like Morhinwig as well as a HC, although his name sounds like he's straight out of Harry Potter
