Ok full grading now..

OL: B- Still some turnstile action on the right side from time to time but overall pretty good.. We lost our starting QB in week one due to poor blocking ...So NO WAY I can give an A for pass blocking and Wallace was running for his life frequently.

TE: B+ very solid, catching pretty much everything, and carrying the passing game on their backs, Run support is adequate but not spectacular (but we knew that)..

FB: A+++++++ Vickers is my man!!!! smashmouth is back in Cleveland.. Possibly my favorite player on the offense... which says alot since he does not really touch the ball.

RB: B- Hillis is a pleasant surprise.. where is everyone else?

WR: F+ Let's see if Delhomme can get them involved again. No WR td's since Delhomme hit Momass ..Robo needs to get healthy and get open.

QB: C Wallace proved he is a backup. I'm glad we have him..he's solid and it was smart for Holmgren to bring him in.. Delhomme looked great up to the injury.. Jury is out on him.. Let's see how he plays the next 3 games against really good teams.. Atlanta, Pittsburgh, New Orleans.. We will know which Jake we have after we see him against these teams.

DL: C+ Pass rush is nonexistant from the front 3.. a little better vs the run but still getting pushed around by better offensive lines

LB: B- Definately better than last year. Blitzes are not getting there.. still some problems shedding blocks and in pass coverage are letting the TE's get too many 3rd down plays.

CB: C- Haden had done everything asked of him very well. IMO will move into the starting lineup at some point but the staff is bringing him in slowly.. Good plan... The starters have been below average..toasted on some plays..but partially coaching issues leaving them exposed on blitzes far too often, that are not getting there (not their fault if the blitz can't get there)... Let's hope they shore things up or the next 3 weeks are going to be rough .. as a unit the safteys and corners need some time to work together as a unit.. so we will see how this comes together.

S: B+ Ward has been better than advertised. great in run support but has been caught out of position on some long pass plays and TD's... time will help the entire secondary as a unit. Elam is Elam.. just average.

SPECIAL TEAMS C+ Dawson has missed kicks he ususally makes, Return team has become average.. Coverage teams have been outstanding for the most part.. Punting.. has been solid but not spectacular.

Coaching C+ Daball is better this year..Ryan has been worse.. Mangini and the whole staff needs to do better adjusting at halftime.

well lets see,
QB: C
WR1: F
WR2: D
TE: B+
HB: B
LT: A
LG: B+
C: A
RG:B
RT:C
FB: A

CB1:B+
CB2:B
SS: A
FS: F
DE: B+
DT: B+
SSOLB: B+
WSOLB: C
WSMLB: C
SSMLB: B

we have a 2.76 GPA, which is a C+

Key needs: WR's, FS, RT, QB

this will get a little better when some people come off injury, after that I'd say were a solid B-

Number of teams who have given up fewer sacks than the Browns?

Two. That and the way we're running the ball? OL is an easy A.

Browns' first quarter report card

By Steve Doerschuk
CantonRep.com staff writer

Team: D-plus
Comment: The Browns are 1-3 in a bottom-line business. Losing at Tampa Bay was a kick in the bottom that left a mark.
  • Head coach: C-minus
Eric Mangini owns the bottom line, but he gets extra credit for last year’s 4-0 finish, from the standpoint it suggests beating Cincinnati isn’t a mirage.
  • Running game: B-minus
Let’s wait and see if Peyton Hillis stays popular longer than pet rocks. The Browns are averaging 116.5 yards a game, which would have ranked 16th in the league last year.
  • Passing game: D-plus
Jake Delhomme-Seneca Wallace can be a C-plus tandem, but the wide receiver corps is less scary than Jason Nix, Shelley Duncan and Matt LaPorta in the heart of a batting order.
  • Run defense: B-minus
Opponents are rushing for 108.8 yards a game. That number would have ranked 12th in the league in 2009 run defense. Cleveland’s ‘09 run defense allowed 144.6 yards a game.
  • Pass defense: D-plus
Should Anquan Boldin and Terrell Owens send their thank you cards to Rob Ryan, Eric Wright or Sheldon Brown?
  • Return units: C
Joshua Cribbs’ numbers from 2009 to 2010 have dropped from 27.5 to 19.9 on kickoffs and 11.9 to 6.8 on punts.
  • Coverage units: A
The other guys are averaging 17.1 yards on kick returns and 4.0 on punt returns.
  • Field goals: C
Captain Phil Dawson owes his team one after a pivotal miss against Kansas City.

The overall team gets two grades:
They get a D overall because they give up leads and cannot make plays when they need to, plus the 3 and outs in the 2nd half of ballgames is weak. They get a B+ on the fact that last year to this year is an improvement.

QB: D they need to make plays at this position and they haven't been able to do that.

WR: D this grade may not all be their fault, but they need to play a lot better

TE: B+ I am not sure what else you can ask of the TE's. They've done all the work.

HB: B+ someone needs to assist Hillis. His style can't work forever.

OL-Pass Blocking: C- Sacks don't tell the whole story; there are too many pressures
OL-Run Blocking: B+ the last two weeks have gone well.
FB: A+ He has the only A+ on the team, Joe Thomas is an A-

DB: D+ someone get their head out of their asses and start making plays - this is pathetic. The + is for Ward's hitting ability - I like hitters, and a D not an F because the CB's Brown and Haden are great tacklers.

LB: C can someone please pressure the QB. Like the OL, sacks don't tell the story. Only reason it's not a D is because the run stopping has been great.

DL: C+ only because they've sort of overachieved, but nothing special.

ST's: B no big return but solid coverage and a good 1/4 season from Dawson.

Sacks are not the way I would rate an OL. Pressures is more of an accurate assessment. Same with our DL/LB corps. They don't pressure he QB well, but they've gotten some sacks. No big deal, because the next 12-15 plays they don't pressure the QB well.

I don't think our OL sucks at all, but they don't get an A from me because of the pressures on the QB multiple times per game. And the LB/DL have to be more consistent with the pressures, and they're hopefully fine tuning these blitzes to get there faster and with more pressures.

But yeah, on either side sacks don't tell me much in this instance. I think it is a false indicator.
