He wasn't physical enough and would have never stayed healthy. They knew that. He has some explosion though and good cuts and quicks, but he would never survive in the AFC North if he actually had to strap it up game in and game out. I think they are veering away from the quick scatback types altogether with Harrison and now Davis out of here. The Pats claimed Clayton from our PS, so the familiarity is there. He goes around 220-225, so he is more into the build they want.

Don't see the big deal, I trust the talent evaluation of the guys in charge in this instance.

I am a bit confused by the hand wringing...didn't Hillis hit the edges more than once in the past weeks with success? Running wide isn't all about blazing speed...it is about setting up your blockers and waiting for the gaps...and then HITTING THEM HARD. Hillis has done better on the outside than a lot of scatback types...and I love the fact he is willing to get airborne (he has hurdled more than a few on the edges). By the way...here is the write up on Thomas Clayton from his draft: POSITIVES: Nice-sized north/south ball carrier. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and displays strength carrying the ball. Powerful, runs with authority and picks up the tough yardage. Runs with good lean, putting his shoulders into defenders. Kind of sounds familiar to somebody. He was noted to have excellent speed as well...although lacked shiftiness and lost speed making cuts.

I'm pissed in the short term. Not long term. I didn't think that it was certain this kid was gonna be a LT waiting to be discovered, however after getting rid of Harrison and no Hardesty, if Hillis goes down we are screwed royally at the RB position. Mike Bell and this new kid isn't the type to instill fear into defenses. I just like to have options and depth, and getting rid of another RB just further hurts us if we have an injury to Peyton.
