I see plenty of logic behind Starting Jake.. I don't think It's career suicide. I am not saying that's what I think we should do.. But I understand WHY. I think the choice is Jake or Colt.. I do not see Wallace in the starting QB equasion.. but between those two. I'm with the team, the coaches, the management, either way..because I believe there are good arguments on both sides.. I don't see QB choice any being MORE right than the other... (Jake or Colt).. It is really just ..what is your preference.. one guy likes peanut butter, another jam..but the other choice is not wrong.

A friend of mine raised a point. Mangini doesn't even need to make it public until game time. In that locker room though, I think it's fair that the players at the very least should know who the #1 guy is and they should be dealing with that promptly. I don't care if it's Jake, or Seneca or Colt. IF we started Jake, and Jake won the game without getting hurt, who is to say then that Jake was the wrong choice? Would it be tantamount to career suicide if he went and started 4 games and went 1-4 putting up some okay numbers but throwing some classic Delhommian INT's in the process, do we chastize him and ultimately Mangini then? Regardless of WHO starts, because it doesn't matter to me. I think one guy needs to be put forward and played as the starter. The team needs STABILITY that's the one thing we haven't had at QB since Tim Couch first went down way back in what 2004? We're looking at close to 10 years of a QB merry-go-round and we wonder why our offense has been routinely ranked near the bottom of the NFL?

| Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace idle again Monday Published: Monday, November 01, 2010, 11:02 AM Updated: Monday, November 01, 2010, 11:13 AM Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer ![]() John Kuntz / Plain Dealer file photograph Colt McCoy will practice today, while Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace will rest their high ankle sprains again. CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are both idle today with their high ankle sprains, but both have a shot to see action on Wednesday after the off-day Tuesday, coach Eric Mangini said. Mangini also said that of the two, Wallace is further ahead in his rehab. As far as who will start Sunday against the 6-1 Patriots, Mangini said it will come down to the health of Wallace and Delhomme, and then he'll start whoever "gives us the best chance to win.'' Wallace and Delhomme resting today gives rookie quarterback Colt McCoy a head start for getting the nod on Sunday. But Mangini said his approach for the rest of the season will be to play the quarterback that gives him the best chance to win as opposed to developing and evaluating McCoy. Right tackle John St. Clair was the only other player idle today . Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace idle again Monday | cleveland.com

| Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren says time is nearing to decide on keeping Colt McCoy on the field Published: Tuesday, November 02, 2010, 4:26 PM Updated: Wednesday, November 03, 2010, 8:40 AM Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer ![]() Chuck Crow / The Plain Dealer Cleveland Browns' team president Mike Holmgren is keeping an eye on the progress of rookie quarterback Colt McCoy. BEREA, Ohio -- In his first extended press conference since the regular season started, Browns President Mike Holmgren delivered mixed messages that left some major issues open to interpretation. He said the decision on whether to keep rookie Colt McCoy as the starting quarterback is "a coach's decision." But he indicated that at some point soon the franchise has to more fully evaluate McCoy before heading into the off-season. He praised coach Eric Mangini and his staff for working hard, but expressed dissatisfaction with the 2-5 record and the performance of the offense. And in the storyline that just won't go away, Holmgren would not close the door completely on coaching again. Initially, Holmgren answered "no," when asked directly if he wants to coach again. He retired from sideline after the 2008 season in Seattle, took a one-year sabbatical away from the NFL in 2009 and was hired as Browns president on Jan. 5, 2010. Holmgren is 62. "No, I'm doing OK," Holmgren said. "Does it sound like I want to coach? The challenge of this is really something for me and I'm enjoying the challenge, but I'd be less than honest if I didn't say I get fired up watching the games. But I also recognize what I was hired to do. And that's what I'm trying to do." Later in the 30-minute meeting with media, Holmgren was asked if he is totally committed to turning around the Browns in his role as club president. "Absolutely," he said. "I made a promise and I'm going to stick with it. Now, if I keep wearing a suit or not? We'll see." Those remarks prompted another follow-up. Does he have the urge to coach again? ![]() Gus Chan / The Plain Dealer "Wins and losses is not the only criteria," said Browns president Mike Holmgren about his assessment of the coaching staff when the season ends. "The crummy part of our business is most of the time it's the main one. The most encouraging thing is we've been in most of the games. And we had chances to win the game. It's also the most discouraging thing because we lost the games." "You're catching me in a weak moment," he joked. "I just came off vacation. No, I love coaching. I'm doing what I'm doing now. That's what I plan to be doing. My commitment is to get the Browns going in the right direction in my role as the president. When I talked to Randy [Lerner, owner] honestly about those things, I am being honest. Right now, that's what I'm going to do." Holmgren said Mangini's future as coach will be determined after the emotions of the 2010 season settle. "And it'll take thoughtful thinking," he said. "Wins and losses is not the only criteria. The crummy part of our business is most of the time it's the main one. The most encouraging thing is we've been in most of the games. And we had chances to win the game. It's also the most discouraging thing because we lost the games." Which brings up the issue of deciding when is the right time to make McCoy the full-time starting quarterback. Holmgren said that conversation will take place as soon as either veteran afflicted with high ankle sprains -- Jake Delhomme or Seneca Wallace -- become healthy enough to play. Wallace may practice on Wednesday. "The obvious thing is: If you play a young quarterback, does he give you the best chance to win?" Holmgren said. "Or are you doing it just for the future? That's kind of crummy, if you're doing it just for the future. You want to win every game. So that's the discussion that will take place." With a few "franchise quarterbacks" expected to be available in the first round of the draft -- and with the Browns having other obvious needs -- Holmgren acknowledged that settling on the team's future quarterback will be one of the most critical decisions he makes as president. "I've gone on record saying the quarterback is the most important player on your team," Holmgren said. "To become a viable playoff caliber team year after year, you have to have 'that guy.' So, I think it's a huge decision, I do. I'm stating the obvious, I think." On other matters: • Holmgren indicated the team was not interested in pursuing released Minnesota wide receiver Randy Moss. "Our focus, I believe, has to be on developing our young receivers," he said. • Holmgren expressed dissatisfaction with the way the receivers are used in the system of offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, but said interfering would "throw a monkey wrench into it." Still, he defended the wideouts. "Let's not jump on the receivers too much here," he said. "I think they're better than OK. I think they're pretty good. It's just that their numbers haven't been very good." • Holmgren said running back Jerome Harrison was traded because he was unhappy with his diminished role following the acquisition of Peyton Hillis and the drafting of Montario Hardesty, who has since been injured. "I always felt if a player is really unhappy and it makes some sense for the organization, then you try to do something to make everything right. That's kind of how it came down," he said, adding that Harrison did not ask to be traded. • Holmgren defended the drafting of Hardesty in the second round, which cost the Browns three draft picks to move up. "Hardesty is a big disappointment to all of us, not the young man, just that it happened," Holmgren said. "The doctors are telling me [his surgically repaired left knee] will come back and be stronger. I'm hopeful about that. The injury thing I don't know if you can predict that. He had such a good senior year [at Tennessee]." • Holmgren said he reached out again to try to repair relations with Jim Brown, who felt disrespected by Holmgren's decision to reduce his role and boycotted the team's inaugural Ring of Honor ceremony. "I'm so sorry all that happened," Holmgren said. "That was not my intention. I still want him to be part of the organization in a certain way. The door is always open." Legends honored: The Browns announced the 2010 Browns Legends class will be made up of offensive linemen Cody Risien and John Wooten. The players will be honored at halftime of the Nov. 14 game against the New York Jets. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...ent_mik_5.html
