Also, I get the concerns about projecting Fairley to a two gap 3-4, but I wouldn't be too scared about him being the next Corey Williams. Williams was an especially bad fit: he wasn't particularly strong at the point (especially when he was playing with a bum shoulder), had trouble moving flat down the line, and wasn't a guy who could play every down without getting worn out.

Fairley, on the other hand, is strong, moves fairly well (not Gerald McCoy-esque but good), and plays with a very good motor. I'm not saying we need to draft him, but I do think the hype is warranted.

In other news, Andrew Luck is legit franchise QB material. Hopefully, Colt is the guy, but I'd love to have Luck.
I'm not telling you Fairley sucks, I'm telling you I think he has to go to the right scheme just the way Corey Williams needs to be in the right scheme. And when you can't fit BOTH schemes, I think top 15 might be too high. For example, Gruden went after Gaines Adams. He pushed all over the place in the NFL and eventually headed off to the Bears when he was deemed somewhat of a bust in TB. Unfortunately, Gaines Adams passed away when a heart defect similar to that of Korey Stringer wasn't uncovered until an autopsy. The point is, I think when dline guys are limited to just 1 scheme - upper first round might be overrating how good they are. Some people misinterpret such a statement as me slamming his talent level. Not at all what I'm doing here.

As for what was said when you weren't on the message board that me, Shep and Heck were on at the time - it was Heck who liked Bunkley and treated us to many videos of him that had an impressionable Shep loving the greatest hits on video and joining the Bunkley bandwagon. You have informed us that's the same way he became a Kafka fan right?

Anyway, Heck won't deny it if he's asked. Believe it or not, before you came along - Heck used to do what you do for our board and treat us to countless videos and goodies about prospects to debate or agree on. If he liked someone such as Bunkley, there would be more footages shared like you did with Aaron Curry. I often thought you were Heck with a new screen name when I first noticed you posting. That's an enormous compliment to both of you by the way. My memory, and it's possible I might be getting senile in my mid 40s, is that Heck thought Ngata was very talented but he felt Bunkley could be a difference maker. Tying that to this thread is the appeal of guys making tackles for losses invite more eyes of fans than someone who is really good and stout at defending the run in 2 gap scheme.

In Cleveland, Michael Dean Perry always seemed noteworthy for his tackles for losses. So much so that he was overrated for his few good plays per game. Pittsburgh exposed his ability vrs the run when he'd shoot gaps and they'd counter-trap his gaping whole up the wazoo. Since MDP was taking himself out of so many plays, Pitt's olinemen doing the trapping were able to turn it up inside and get to the next level (LBers). Bob Golic rarely made sacks or tackles for losses but he was stout enough to defend the run, keep olinemen off backers and play at a well deserved pro bowl level.
