I'm currently working on The Gathering Storm, book twelve of The Wheel of Time.
Robert Jordan died after writing book 11, Knife of Dreams.
I was depressed, I thought I'd never see the series get wrapped up.
Good thing is Jordan outlined the entire story, including the ending before he passed on. Plus, In his final months worked with Sanderson on getting the writing style down so the newer books Sanderson finished would have the same feel as the ones Jordan had wrote.
Really, so far so great (way better than good), I can't even tell the difference between Sanderson's and Jordan's works.
