in CLEVELAND BROWNS,NFL,PEYTON HILLIS

Browns running back Peyton Hillis has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance this past Sunday in Cleveland's 34-14 win against the New England Patriots.

Hillis had a career-high 29 carries for a career-high 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished with three catches for 36 yards, giving him a career-high 220 all-purpose yards.

Hillis has never won the award before, and he is the first Browns player to earn it since former Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson garnered it during Week 2 of the 2007 season. Hillis is the fourth Browns player and the team's first running back to win the award since 1999

Continues our feel good week. The reassuring this is, a short 2 weeks ago, we were spinning positives out of a Steelers 18 point loss. Mangini will not let them relax.

Yep, Hiway, Golic was saying how much he liked Hillis' guns yesterday and how much every guy would appreciate such a thing, and then Greeny was shooting back with man crush stuff. Personally, I think he should be in Gears of War 3 with a chainsaw (but that's just me).

Back to the Peyton, I like the way he's earned it. He was the third at Arkansas, and just kept churning away until he got his opportunity.

He's still up for the FedEx ground gamer of the week as is Colt for Rookie of the week. Damn!

Here's the official dealeo:

Hillis named Player of the Week

After a 184-yard, two-touchdown game against the New England Patriots, Peyton Hillis was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for games played on November 7-8, the league announced today.

Hillis recorded career-high rushing totals of 184 yards, 29 carries and two touchdowns as the Browns defeated the New England Patriots, 34-14, on Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. His rushing performance is the second-highest single-game total in the NFL this season. He also added three receptions for 36 yards for a single-game career-best 220 total yards from scrimmage. The award is the first of his three-year career and he is the first Browns player to be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week since quarterback Derek Anderson was selected during Week 2 of the 2007 season. He is the fourth Browns player and first running back to garner the award since the team returned to action in 1999.

Hillis Collecting Accolades, Recognition

Since Sunday's performance, Hillis receving numerous demands on his time

BEREA, Ohio — Peyton Hillis has went from an obscure player on the Denver Broncos bench to one of the more prominent running backs in the NFL this season. He was recognized by the NFL for his big performance against the Patriots last Sunday by being named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Hillis rushed for 184 yards, including two touchdowns against New England. He also caught three passes for 36 yards for a total of 220 yards from scrimmage. Hillis is the first Browns to win the award since Derek Anderson received the award in the second week of the 2007 season.

Hillis has been featured on national television and radio shows, but he tries to remain on an even keel.

“It’s a great feeling,” Hillis said. “It’s always better to be on top than on the bottom. I’ve been in both places, but it’s a lot more fun to be on top.

“But, I have to stay grounded and remember where I come from and I have to keep that mentality. I always figure the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Any time you can get hurt and be back on the bottom. I try to stay grounded.”

Hillis knows in the NFL, there isn’t much time to relish in your accomplishments.

“The feeling is pretty much of enjoyment,” he said. “I’m excited I could accomplish something that great, but I have a great offensive line and fullback helping me, but you can’t dwell on that achievement very long because we have another big challenge this week.”
Rex Ryan was asked what he thought about Hillis in his chat with the Cleveland media.

“Is (Eric) Mangini trying to get me for tampering?” Ryan said. “The obvious comparison is to Mike Alstott. He runs straight at you.

“Let face it, he ran for 184 yards last week. He did 140 yards against Baltimore. It’s going to be a great matchup we’re No. 1 stopping the run and it will be a battle.”
Hillis agrees.

“There’s no doubt they present a big challenge for us,” Hillis said. “It’s huge matchup. We know it all starts up front with the o-line and the d-line. I have a lot of faith to the guys on our team.

“We just need to do our game and play smash mouth football.”
Hillis said he doesn’t feel his body is wearing down because he has such a physical style of running the ball.

“I’m blessed that I don’t have to come out of the game that much,” he said. “I’m not tired. The more and more the game goes on the better I feel.”

At Sunday’s game the Browns will hand out Peyton Hillis posters.
“It’s a great feeling,” he said. “I’ve truly been blessed.”

Notebook

Hillis on McCoy: Hillis said he has all the confidence if rookie Colt McCoy continues to be the starter.

“There’s no doubt in my mind,” Hillis said. “Colt McCoy has been a winner his whole life. He brings a determined mentality to our team . He is really confident and has a swagger about him .”

Legends: Cody Risien and John Wooten will be inducted into the Cleveland Browns Legends this Sunday. They will be honored at halftime and will be the Honorary Coin Toss Captains. Risien played with the Browns from 1979-83, 85-89 and Wooten played from 1959-67.

Seneca Back, Jake Not: Mangini said that only QB Jake Delhomme will not practice on Wednesday. Seneca Wallace and John St. Clair will practice on a limited basis.
“Seneca should get limited reps (Wednesday),” Mangini said.

Rex not Fooled on QB: Rex Ryan doesn’t sound fooled about who will be the Browns quarterback Sunday.

“I don’t know if (McCoy’s) going to be playing quarterback,” Rex Ryan said. “It might be Frank Ryan. He led the Browns to their last championship. Whether it’s Colt McCoy or Frank Ryan, they’ll do a good job.”

Ryan said he has been impressed with McCoy.

“Look at the teams he’s played against,” he said. “He’s not making mistakes. He’s a smart competitive kid.”

On the quarterback situation, Mangini said little.

“This is really Seneca’s first day back, so Colt will get the majority of the reps,” Mangini said. “At this point it’s seeing what Seneca can do. He’ll take part in about a quarter of the practice.”
Mangini still said there has been no discussion on the starters.

“The important thing is to gather information and get all of our guys healthy and see where we’re at. I don’t think we need to rush into any decision. I feel comfortable with all three of those guys. I think it’s important to see how we keep going.”

Great for Hillis! last week was great to watch..This week..will be much much tougher..Jets are 4th vs the run. I don't care if he gets 11 yards on 20 carries ... so long as we beat them and shut up Rob's loudmouth brother up there.

Excellent week for Hillis. BTW, VW, that was a hillarious comment and I can't give you any more rep at this time so +1 for that...

Anyway, this is great for Hillis, and the team. I think he's the unquestioned team MVP at this point of the season and I think he should be a Pro-Bowl contender (I need to vote for him...)

It's good to see the team getting a lot of love this week, The Score (my favorite Canadian sports news network) had a segment about The Browns on their "Score on NFL" program that talked about how some 'risky moves' that Holmgren has made have helped Cleveland in the wake of losing MeBron (I love that name for that ass clown btw...) and the Hillis trade was the one that got the bulk of the attention. Colt McCoy also got some love as well in that segment.

Weeden gives us a QB with skills McCoy does not have.
Richardson gives us a HB with abilities the Browns have not seen in decades!
The message is clear, we want to score more than 13.6 PPG this year.

WOOF WOOF WOOF!
