Safety T.J. Ward knows which New York Jets player fans want to see receive a big hit on Sunday

Jets receiver Braylon Edwards will be the focus of fans' attention during Sunday's game.

BEREA, Ohio — Safety T.J. Ward has gotten the message loud and clear from Browns fans this week: They want him to hit Jets and former Browns receiver Braylon Edwards hard, early and often Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

"Oh yeah, exactly," Ward said. "I've been getting a lot of that this week. I guess it's kind of flattering. But it's also kind of my role, my job as a safety. So it's not just Braylon. Whoever's got the ball is going to get it."

Edwards has spent the week blabbing about the revenge he wants on Cleveland, urging fans in a tweet that "17 is coming back and you better bring ya [darn] popcorn."

He also told Newsday that he remembers the writers, fans and coaches that had something to say when he was traded to New York and that "I'm going back there to handle business. I left there with a bitter taste in my mouth, and I'm going back there for some satisfaction. . . . Just know that 17's coming to work when we play next week."

The comments have not been lost on the Browns -- and the plan is to make Edwards have a long day.

"Has he been [talking]? I never knew," kidded Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. "He's been a great receiver. He's very talented, just like all of the Jets. But our defense wants to have an identity, and they want to have an identity that Cleveland can relate to, and that's smart and tough, and we're going to prove it on Sunday. . . .

It's going to be about us and Cleveland taking care of their wideouts and Braylon Edwards. We're looking forward to that matchup, and our guys have been working hard.
PD Browns fans would like to see safety T.J. Ward (43) deliver some punishment to former Browns receiver Braylon Edwards of the Jets.

"So whatever he's said about us or Cleveland or our coaches -- he doesn't like any of them except Eric, and that means me, darn. I'll hit him on the sideline if he wants to come over. But we're looking to forward to this. This is a great challenge. This is one of the very talented offenses in football, and we can't wait to hit them."

Ward, who leads the Browns with 60 tackles, will do his talking on the field.
"You can talk all you want, but you've still got to play the game," he said. "We don't need what he said to motivate us. We've got enough motivation."

Benard questionable: Browns linebacker Marcus Benard, who fainted in the locker room on Thursday and was treated and released from the hospital later that night, was idle Friday and is listed as questionable for the Jets game.
Benard underwent further tests Friday to rule out anything serious. Browns coach Eric Mangini said he wasn't sure if it was Benard's first episode.

"It was just really fainting," said Mangini. "That's really what it was, and he went through a range of tests. There's really not a lot more to it than that right now."
He said Benard told the staff he wants to play Sunday.

"Marcus always wants to play, and the key thing is just getting all the information," he said.

Mangini praised Benard's development since he was signed as an undrafted rookie last year out of Jackson State. He leads the team with 4.5 sacks this season.

"He came in about as raw as you could get," said Mangini. "There were times where I didn't know if he was going to hang around because there were some things he wasn't quite getting, but he kept working at it."

Linebacker David Bowens texted back and forth with Benard on Thursday night. "He said, 'I'm doing OK,' " said Bowens. "It was scary, but he'll be all right."

Benard has also been going through an undisclosed stressful personal situation at home, one that caused him to miss practice time the week leading up the Oct. 24 New Orleans game.

Rob Ryan confident: Ryan got some jabs in at his twin brother, Jets coach Rex
Ryan, talking about the turkey gobbler under his neck and donning a weight belt to show how Rex hides his own belly for news conferences.

But Rob showed no lack of confidence about beating his brother. He kidded that Rex will "be very upset" when they meet after the game.

Rob also said the Browns coming together "is going to help us, and we are going to win this game."

Also: "We are in the middle of that turn, and I think we are going to get it. This win will go a long way for that; we need that. . . . When we beat this team here, we will be 4-5."

Revis island: Browns receivers are gearing up for two-time Pro Bowl cornerback

Darrelle Revis, whom they consider the best in the NFL.

"He's arguably the best," said Mohamed Massaquoi. "When you look at his game, he's a complete player. He does a little bit of everything right. He's very smart, he's physically gifted."

Revis is 100 percent after missing two games with a pulled hamstring. "He's definitely doing everything that he wants to do now," said Massaquoi. "He has great feet, ball skills and he's physical."

Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said: "I got to see Revis up close in practice, and he's the real deal. He gets up in your face and challenges you, and he really is out there on an island."

Fisticuffs: The practice week was so intense that linebacker Jason Trusnik and fullback Lawrence Vickers came to blows Friday and had to be separated. "It was just the heat of the moment," said Trusnik. Said Rob Ryan: "Our players are motivated, and they're excited. If they don't kill each other first, we're going to lay it on these Jets."

QBs 50-50: Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme are questionable, and Mangini said it's conceivable that Wallace is healthy enough to be the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback Sunday. Also questionable are Kenyon Coleman (knee), Shaun Rogers (ankle) and John St. Clair (ankle).

I am just hoping the TJ Ward make-a-wish foundation will be handing out concussions to Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes the ex-Stooler

Edwards needs an attitude adjustment and sure, I'd like some physical punishment to be part of that adjustment. And I'd love a pick off the hands of this tool.

Slightly off topic:

I got a Braylon Edwards Jersey in 2007 after our 10-6 season.... It was an expensive NFL-made jersey... cost around 60 bucks, I think.

Obviously I've regretted it every year since then. I don't like wearing it in public because I don't like reminding myself and others about this douchebag we had playing for us. However, a while ago I had a revelation:

"Edwards" has the name "Ward" in the middle.

That gave me the idea to remove the lettering and re-stitch "Ward" in the center. I havn't done it yet, but I know how to use a sewing machine (lol, high school home-ec class) so the conversion should go just fine. Now I don't have to remind myself of Bray-bray AND I get to pimp our hard-hitting rookie safety who is having a fantastic rookie season and will only improve the next year. Only the more Die-hard Browns fans would notice the numbers don't match, anyway.... and now I get more use out of a crappy jersey.

Oh, sweet, sweet irony. I hope our boy T.J. gets to lay him out flat.

You'd be better off stitching "Sipe" to the back of the jersey. Unless u hang with some true old-timers, "17" is pretty much tied to dickhead.

17 should have been retired after Sipe.

Helmet stickers for Elam and Rubin on the first Jet series. After afraidwards went down on 1st attempt and the fracas started it was nice to see Rubin jog over just to see if his elbow could say hello. soooooooo close. And to Elam for keeping dropsies on the ground after the incompletion and then for a moment or two after that
