| Cleveland Browns plan to sign kick returner Clifton Smith, NFL.com reports Published: Tuesday, November 16, 2010, 2:49 PM Updated: Tuesday, November 16, ![]() Well it looks like the Cleveland Browns want some insurance just in case wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs is out or is limited due to the injury he suffered last Sunday against the New York Jets. NFL.com reporter Steve Wyche writes how the Browns plan to sign kick returner Clifton Smith, who worked out for the Browns on Tuesday. Smith was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the preseason. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins before he was released. Cribbs reportedly dislocated four of his right toes in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the New York Jets Jets. His status for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is in enough doubt that the team worked out Smith, a former Pro Bowl selection for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before a concussion ended his season in 2009.

| With Brown still banged up, I doubt the coaching staff wants Haden returning any kicks full time. He did it the emergency created against the jets, but Smith is now their insurance policy.
