Highlights from press conference with Browns coach Eric Mangini
by NATE ULRICH on NOVEMBER 17, 2010 - 11:16 AM
in CLEVELAND BROWNS,ERIC MANGINI,NFL

Browns coach Eric Mangini met with reporters Wednesday morning. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference:
  • Offensive linemen Floyd Womack and Eric Steinbach, linebackers Eric Barton and Scott Fujita (knee), cornerback Sheldon Brown (shoulder), wide receiver Josh Cribbs (toes) and defensive lineman Shaun Rogers will miss practice today, Mangini said.
  • Mangini said Steinbach injured his calf, but he expects Steinbach to return to action Thursday. Barton and Womack could also return Thursday, Mangini said.
  • Mangini said he is still optimistic Cribbs and Brown will be able to practice later this week.
  • Mangini rookie Shawn Lauvao played well at right guard after Billy Yates was sidelined against the New York Jets. Mangini said Lauvao, Womack and John St. Clair are in a three-way competition for two starting spots on the right side of the offensive line.
  • Mangini said recently acquired return man Clifton Smith could be ready to play as soon as Sunday.
  • Mangini said he still has hope Fujita will be able to return this season.

Did Fuge tweak the Medial Collateral Ligament or what? That is usually the only one guys can return from without missing a ton of time.

I also think it's time to put to bed any kind of competition between Poke Chop and St. Clair. Poke Chop has actually solidified RT and Lauvao is fine at RG to replace a great coming out season by Yates. We are still okay on the line as long as Steiny can go and we don't lose any more guys on the right side. The second St. Clair has to play RT with Poke Chop going inside etc we are in trouble.

Agree on O-line Riff. Sounds like everyone is just dinged up, Yates doesn't bother me a lot, but we'll miss Fugi.

From CBS:

1 minute ago - CB Sheldon Brown (neck/shoulder) remains sidelined with a stinger, but he is "very optimistic" he'll play his 138th consecutive game Sunday. "I haven't missed (an NFL game) yet," he said. "I'll be shocked if I miss this one." Browns RapidReports

I couldn't agree with you anymore Riff! If St. Clair plays than we are screwed!
