WELL...apart from the in-fighting and back and forth, tit-for-tat stuff that seems to be a staple of football fandom, I did appreciate this thread and decided something needed to be added for people like me who've never played the game and for whom it sometimes moves too fast.
I needed to learn something recently because it's been thrown around this board...A LOT!!
And after reading a couple of short definitions here and there, it seems as there are quite a few people who either misinterpret the intent or whatever of the so called "West Coast Offense (WCO)".
From what I can tell, the WCO is built on dink-and-dunk which most folks here seem completely opposed to. It's intent was pinpoint accuracy on short throws to open up the running game - yet we keep looking for some guy who can throw 100 yards and hit a dime.
Some stuff I've found:
Football's West Coast Offense - Basics of the West Coast Offense Football 101: History of the West Coast Offense (I really liked this one 'cause there's a lot of mention of Bernie!)
Ultimately, I'm not sure I like the WCO. Who needs "finesse" when you have a BEAST like Peyton Hillis? Can someone make short little 15 yard throws consistently? Can someone consistently catch 15 yard throws?
'Cause the last I checked, it only takes 10 yards for a first down. String a few of those together and you should be able to get the last few for 6 (7) points.
Am I missing something?
