I don't like McClain that high. Apparently, former Browns scout Daniel Jeremiah agrees:

Yeah, Dan Williams over Mount Cody is a bit of a surprise. And John Jerry in the 1st is a real shocker.

Not high on McClain anymore for exactly the reasons Alo covered above. I think we'll be happy to have DQJ back, but we need a thumper next to him. Could be Bowens for another year... and Veikune might be ready to take on that role. Honestly... I think our front 7 is virtually set, especially with Rubin at NT and Rogers at DE.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's gonna come down to Dez V. Haden.

If this is true, I'd be all for trading up from #38 to get this guy.

Quote:
Jeremiah says the Patriots could surprise with one of their three second-round selections, taking offensive tackle Brian Bulaga out of Iowa.

“Iowa is another program that is run by a former Belichick assistant in Kirk Ferentz,” Jeremiah said. “Bulaga isn’t going to get picked as high as all these mock drafts have him projected. He most likely will wind up in the second round, and could be in the Pats thinking with one of their picks in that round.”

You feel that Cody is a better talent than Williams? I'm surprised.

Williams is an absolute stud that could play NT in a 1 or 2 gap scheme, IMO, and is going to go in the first, while Cody slips to the 2nd, simply based onthe fact that he's not a 3-down player.

The Steelers will take a hard look at Williams in the first, IMO.

With the Pats, you've always got to watch out for guys who played under coaches Belichick likes - Urban Meyer, Pat Hill, Nick Saban. And yes, Kirk Ferentz is from the Belichick coaching tree, but I can't recall them taking a guy from Iowa. I think he's taken about 10 guys from the other three.

As for Williams and Cody, I agree that Williams will go first, but I'm not sure who will have the better career. Cody shows much better on the field than on the scale, so these post-season events will be a bit embarrassing for him, especially if he takes his shirt off during his 40 a la Andre Smith.

Weight issue guys are about a 50/50, it seems. Guys like Shaun Rogers go on to be pretty dominant, while guys like Alan Branch don't. Tough call.

My sense is that Cody is going to make a good pro, though. He can play.

I'm surprised as well, given that I meant the opposite. Unfortunately, my fever-addled mind flipped the names.

The mock I was referencing has Mount Cody at #10, Dan Williams at #20. Though I wouldn't necessarily say that Williams is a better talent, I'd be surprised if he didn't go higher than his extremely corpulent counterpart.
