That whole piece by Biletnikoff is so frustrating it's beyond words to describe. That's the type of mentality that destroys perspective. Look at Mangini's body of work for the love of God -- He cleaned up the locker room, which took him at least half of last season -- He added scrap heap guys who have been contributors here (Roth, Moore, Benard, Schaefring) -- He had enough respect from who was left in 2009 for the team to play well in the last five weeks (don't forget the SD game) -- He continued to add team-first guys in this past offseason (Brown, Fujita, Hillis) -- He was able to adapt seamlessly with the Holmgren/Heckert duo and they had an excellent first draft together. -- In year two, he has gone up against seven division leaders (as of Week 11). In those games, the Browns had a fourth quarter lead in all but two of those games (Pit, Atl), and won two handily (NO, NE). Did we compete against any division leaders last year? Exactly. -- In year one, he preached toughness. In year two, it's being practiced. Exhibit A: Peyton Hillis; Exhibit B: TJ Ward; Exhibit C: Matt Roth If you think this team isn't moving forward THE RIGHT WAY you need to pay more attention. I know people say that you can turn things around in the NFL in one year. That's true, but if they don't do it right then they are one-year wonders (a la the Browns in 2007). The teams with staying power are the ones who do it the right way. This is the right way: build through the draft, add the right players (talent/smarts/toughness/leadership), and consistency in your approach week after week, and finally you need a franchise QB. The Browns might have the QB, all they need is to continue to infuse the roster with more talent in the draft and free agency. |

Ugh pass on Gruden, I'm just not sold on him truly. I don't really want to go there. I will worry about new coaches once Mangini's officially got the hook.
__________________ BROWNS 2012: We have our "New Offense" It's Put up or shut up time. Weeden gives us a QB with skills McCoy does not have. Richardson gives us a HB with abilities the Browns have not seen in decades! The message is clear, we want to score more than 13.6 PPG this year. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |
