Actually I shouldn't have said the NFL, I mean the Pundits, the talkers. Lots of stories you read talk about that idea and I don't think they are making that up.

He's gonna be a hot candidate do you deny that? And as rediculous as it sounds, the better the Jets do, the better chances someone takes a chance and makes Rob a HC.

I am not saying he will be a good HC understand. I am saying he'll be considered for lots of ...."intangible" factors.

The one thing that works against him is the potential lockout. Owners may not want to take a chance on a first time HC like Rob with the potention of a lockout season coming.

I agree to some extent on the last part. But reality in the NFL is that W/L mean a lot, and the league is a win now league. It's all gonna come down to what Holmgren thinks at year end, and if he feels this staff/team have left wins on the table.
Agreed on the reality of the NFL. I am talking about what I want to see, not what I think will keep Mangini's job for him. They are totally different things. I understand Mangini almost HAS to win 2 of these last 5 to keep his job. Where We would diasgree is whether that's a good thing or not.

But I also think it comes down to does Holmgren think this team/staff is moving the team in the right direction. Leaving wins on the table may affect that thinking, but I think he'll more look at the over all product of the team and coaching and has it improved since last year.

I'm already on record saying this and I'll stick to it. Mangini and his whole staff will be coaching the Browns next year.

I'd agree the talkers say he will be. But outside of CLE reporters, I really haven't seen much of them talking about him. Can't recall in recent memory hearing the Morts, Shefters, or guys on NFL network bringing him up as a hot candidate. I think we all know though that when it comes to hot talk for HC you can only take those guys comments with a grain of salt. Guys go from "he's gonna be a hot candidate" to never heard again in a week.

I do deny he will actually be a hot candidate. He has no body of work I see that would make some team/GM have high interest in him. I don't think what the Jets do have any baring on him. He and Rex are different guys. To me it would be foolish for any team/GM to go "his brother is doing good as a HC, so Rob will too".

I don't see the intangible factor either. He doesn't have guys running through walls for him like Rob does. Being animated isn't an intangible to me.

I think with the lockout, that would sooner help him. With a lock out coming, team might prefer a first time HC because they will come cheaper and on a shorter contract.

We agree as far as wanting to see. I am with you on that. I don't think we really disagree about whether winning 2 of the last 5 to keep the job is a good thing or not. I don't personally think it is a must or should be. I think how those games actually play out should be the determining factor.

We completely agree that it comes down to what Holmgren thinks of the team/staff moving forward. I think there may be more than just right direction. The team is on the right direction path imo. To me the question that needs to asked is the staff the right staff to make the team take the next step/jump. If the staff has improved over last year is very subjective. I am sure they have all improved in some way or another. It comes down to how much and where/when you think they'd be at the next level.

I don't think the whole staff will be the same next year. But I can still see EM getting one more year as a possibility today.

I'm not sure that Mangini would survive a 1-4 finish to the year. Barring a new rash of injuries, I would personally view that type of finish as a step backward. I fully expect us to win at least 2 games. I don't think its irrational either. We're a .500 ballclub going back to our winning streak last year. 2-3 is the over under for me.

I guess a question might be: Will Mangini survive a 2-3 finish which leads to a 6-10 season record? That's probably an even money bet. I think a 3-2 finish with a 7-9 record (or anything better) assures his return.

I am not certain it's wins and losses but HOW we play.. Who is on the field healthy is always a factor...Specultating before the season is over... wasted energy..we will have plenty of time to reflect when the season is over.. I am worried about Miami right now.. The offense is HOT HOT HOT. 2 headed running game and a QB who just passed for over 300 without his #1 guy in Brandon Marshall..who says he may be on the field for our game.
