Default Delhomme admits it's McCoy's team (and more from RapidReports)

NFL News Updates - CBSSports.com RapidReports

QB Jake Delhomme on holding down the position for rookie Colt McCoy (ankle): "I'm not the dumbest guy in the world. I know the future of the Browns, and we've seen it. I'm 35 years old." Browns RapidReports

There's other good stuff as well:

QB Jake Delhomme on Miami's defense: "They're very big, strong and physical. They have very good corners. They give you multiple, multiple looks. They're similar to Baltimore." Delhomme cited the Dolphins holding a previously strong Oakland ground game to 16 yards last Sunday. Browns RapidReports

QB Jake Delhomme on his aggressive, sometimes reckless approach: "If you're 'Charlie Checkdown,' your stats are going to look good, but scoring 13 points is not going to win you a lot of games." Browns RapidReports

QB Jake Delhomme said he apologized to coach Eric Mangini immediately after Sunday's game for mistakes that put the team in position to lose on a FG. The Browns were saved when Carolina PK John Kasay missed a field goal. Browns RapidReports

David Bowens on fellow LB Matt Roth: "People are running away from him. It sucks when you're an OLB because on a run play they can run away from you and you're out of the play." Browns RapidReports

LB David Bowens said the defense must be prepared for anything Sunday vs. Miami. "They're going to look at what they think your weakness is and attack it," he said. "(Offensive coordinator Dan Henning) is great at putting his offense in the best position possible." Browns RapidReports

WR Brian Robiskie on snagging several passes off slant routes in his best NFL game Sunday against Carolina: "Those were the routes we had called that worked out against their defense. We were taking what the defense was giving us." Browns RapidReports

CB Joe Haden credits his development to extra film study and help from veteran S Abe Elam, particularly recognizing plays off checkdowns. Haden has four INTs in the last six games and has likely taken over as the full-time starter. Browns RapidReports

Coach Eric Mangini on QB Jake Delhomme’s Jekyll-Hyde performance Sunday: “He made a ton of good plays. He got everyone on the same page and production from (WRs Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie). But you can’t (throw INTs). Sometimes the best throws go into the stands.” Browns RapidReports

S T.J. Ward on handling talented Miami RBs Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown: "We have to tackle well. If we swarm and get a hat on them, we'll be fine." Browns RapidReports

S T.J. Ward isn't practicing, but wouldn't explain his absence. "Coach (Mangini) knows why -- you'd have to ask him," said Ward, who declined to reveal whether he's out for physical reasons. Ward added he's unsure how long he'd be sidelined, but expects to play Sunday. Browns RapidReports

Coach Eric Mangini said former Dolphins GM Bill Parcells originally recommended S Abe Elam when Mangini coached the Jets. "(Parcells) has always been a supporter of mine," Elam said. "I'm thankful of having a guy like that in my corner." Browns RapidReports

WR Jordan Norwood on his promotion from the practice squad: "It comes down to being consistent day in and day out, week in and week out." Norwood said he was excited when coach Eric Mangini announced the promotion to the team. Browns RapidReports

Coach Eric Mangini said he’s a "big fan" of Miami offensive coordinator Dan Henning with whom he worked as a coach with the Jets. "He’s very creative," Mangini said of Henning. "You saw how the Wildcat exploded onto the scene." Browns RapidReports

Well say what you want about Jake, but you gotta love candor like that. It's a departure from the usual PC bullshit that the players say over and over...

+1

He does give a little jab about check-down passes, but there's no reason to think those won't come along for McCoy. We've already seen some to Moore and Watson. Also, check-downs tend to happen when you're playing the Steelers, Pats, and Jets.

Holmgren's biggest mistake was the 7 mil to JD. Even without Colt. It made no sense then and makes no sense now. Jake is, self-admittedly, past his prime and continues to play with his post-surgical form. There's just no mustard on those passes and his decisions are not very good.

Hey Jake, you also aren't going to win a lot of games when you give the other teams 6 and 12 points either.

Unless he performed like he did before his injury and lit it up for the Browns, then he would have been a genius for grabbing him...

It is not my money and in an uncapped year, who cares? I have no problem if JD sticks around as a backup.

I will never understand why people continue to harp on this 7 million and how it was such a huge mistake. Why? Did it put us in cap hell? Is it your money? Is Delhomme doing a hell of a job as a mentor and leader of the locker room? Let the owner spend his money on whatever he wants, so long as it's not a detriment to our team, our future, or puts us in danger of cap hell.

Fully agree with you Gabe. I never understand when fans bring up what any guy is paid, especially in the NFL where the contracts aren't guaranteed. As you noted, its not something that impacted the team in terms of salary cap, and it's none of our moeny.
