Browns Playoff Chances - Possible, But Not Going To Happen

If the Browns won out...

1. Colts (7-6) lose one more (Jax, @Oak, Ten) OR Jaguars lose three (Oak, @Ind, Was,
@Hou);

I can see the Colts losing a game.

2. Raiders (6-6) lose two more (@Jax, Den, Ind, @KC), OR just one to either KC or @Jax for an equal record against Conference and common opponents, taking it to the 4th tiebreaker, strength of victories; OR Chiefs lose four (@SD, @StL, Ten, Oak).

Raiders losing two games isn't unusual.

3. Chargers (6-6) lose two more (KC, SF, @Cin, @Den), OR just one to either KC or @Cin for an equal record against Conference and common opponents, taking it to the 4th tiebreaker, strength of victories; OR Chiefs lose four (@SD, @StL, Ten, Oak).

This one isn't likely.

4. Dolphins (6-6) lose one more (@Jets, Buf, Det, @NE);

Seems inevitable.

5. Texans (5-7) lose one more (Bal, @Ten, @Den, Jax) (they win the conference tiebreaker if they don't); and finally,

Meh. Maybe.

6. Ravens (8-4) lose two (@Hou, NO, Cin) in addition to the one they're going to lose to the Browns on Dec. 26, to lose the division tiebreaker (How's losing to the Bengals? HA.).

Definitely not going to happen.

Albeit better than I thought, those damn Ravens are going to prevent any Jets-like return for us.

Interesting to think about. The fact that we're even loosely in the Playoff hunt at 5-7 is awesome considering how we couldn't even take a playoff spot when we wen't 10-6 in 2007. We would need to win the last 4 games and we would need things to go our way but it would be a huge statement for the team to make the playoffs.

I'm not banking on it, I'm not expecting it and I'm really not sure it will happen but it's still plausable when this time of the year we're usually in playoff contention in the same sense of that timeless Mora quote...

"Playoffs?! Nobody said anything about Playoffs!"

I must be in a pissy mood today 'cause I figure even if we made it to the playoffs on a wildcard wing and a prayer, the reality is we'd be knocked out the first round.

Mostly, I think it would be cool because it would make such a statement about our improvements. I think it would stop most (if not all) of the speculation about a coaching change.

And we could spend an offseason REALLY looking forward to next season with real hope instead of just trying to talk ourselves into it! LOL

In the land of hypotheticals. If we made the playoffs and played Jacksonville again (assuming they take the AFC South) I think that's a game we could win. It was such a close call last time, payback would be a bitch as they say. If it was against any other team though I would be skeptical. One thing's for sure, we wouldn't push over it would be a tough fought game for all four quarters which is more than we can say for teams that have represented the brown and orange over the past 10 seasons.
