Don't think this was posted but from NFL Insider If Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren does elect to cut ties with Eric Mangini this offseason, it's possible he'll hire someone from his coaching tree to take over. Take a gander at the gray box to the right for some of the men in that group. Holmgren coaching tree
Mangini's job security was analyzed by ESPN AFC North blogger James Walker recently, and Walker noted that strong arguments can be made for either side. On the pro-Mangini side, the team has played inspired as of late (notwithstanding the dud in Week 14), and is hanging in games in spite of a roster that is still in developmental stages. On the other hand, the Browns have gone 10-19 with Mangini at the helm, and Holmgren's style of team operation is different than that of his head coach. Following Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills -- a game which featured some conservative play-calling by the Browns -- ESPN's John Clayton thinks that Mangini's fate may already be sealed (below). Seth Wickersham also checks in with some ideas: Seth Wickersham Switch at coordinator could be enough "The Browns have played hard for Mangini and responded to his coaching. While I think that he's earned the right to coach the team next year, Holmgren made it clear to me personally and others that the Browns' offense needed to improve in 2010. To be fair: The Browns have lost all three of their QBs to injuries during various points during the season, and their receivers have been banged up too. As a result, Cleveland has been a running team in a passing league. What if Holmgren wants to keep Mangini but suggests that offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, one of the coach's good friends, go? My guess -- and it's just that -- is that Mangini would part ways with Daboll. One name to keep an eye on: Josh McDaniels. He and Mangini get along, he knows offense, and he's exactly the type of QB developer that could help Colt McCoy turn into a star. " |

I live in Denver, and I think Josh had way too much on his plate here. There are very few people who can coach and GM. I heard the new coach on the radio today being asked about what he has learned about being the head coach. He talked about how much stuff he found that needed to get done, that he had never even considered before. If they want to bring in Josh as OC, I have no problem with that.

If we brought in Mcdaniels as our OC, I'd shit a brick of happiness.... You cannot deny his offensive prowess, he ran the most prolific offensive season in the history of the NFL, and he turned Kyle fricken Orton into a top 5 QB (statistically). That wont happen though, for 2 reasons, I think Mcdaniels still has a good relationship with Belicheck, and he wouldnt go to Mangini's team and suffer the fallout with Bill, 2.... He's on someones head coaching radar, and I hope its not the Bengals, the second time around he wont have GM duties and he;s gonna be free to commit time to just coaching I think Gruden is pretty much a lock, I was just watching him on ESPN's year of the QB thing, the guy has so much charisma, no matter what he's says, he makes it sound so important

None of these names as OC is really appealing. McDaniels did great with Orton but look what he did with Hillis. Mariucci - too comfy in his broadcast job, would only consider a job as HC and has already failed at that twice I think. Morninweg was terrible in Detroit, OK I guess as OC but likes a shifty HB - can you say Jerome Harrison take two? Jim Zorn? possible OC only. Gruden maybe the only one on that list that is really HC material and even that is debatable.

The best way to rehabilitate his stock would be to take on a big challenge and succeed. Rebuilding the Browns' offense would fit the bill. |

We had 1 really good draft. And then Alex Mack before that. If we can get a draft like this years come April, we will be in the hunt in January (we're in it every week this year, just cant get over the hump some days). In addition to another solid draft, I think we need 1 big FA splashy, flashy acquisition. That probably has to be at the WR position. A guy that has to be an IMPACT right away. A guy with the tools, that can learn from Freckles & Jake. Maybe he's in the draft in April. Whomever "he" is, he needs to be a Cleveland Brown by May 2011. Outside of that, we desperately need LG, RT, and DE(s). If McD runs a similar style offense* to D bs, PULL THE TRIGGER, MIKE. He'll be looking to prove himself at an OC position again in 2011. D bs has the plays/playbook - for some reason he just chooses not to run** them.*similar in regards to terminology, packages, etc. ** pun intended. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet Mangini stays and Dabs goes. The most likely OC replacement being Zorn. This weekend is HUGE for Mangini. If he loses to Cinci, along with the Buffalo loss, it pretty much means he has to win the Steelers and Ravens games. This would be highly unlikely when your team can't beat the likes of the Buffalo's and Cinci's of this world. If he wins this weekend, he can probably afford to split the last two and keep his job. If he loses this weekend, he better hope a healthy McCoy is the second coming of Joe Montana as it would be his only hope of losing to Cinci & Buffalo, beating the Steelers & Ravens, and therefore keeping his job.
