Or maybe Colt has expressed such confidence and a great attitude that he feels the kid no longer needs a cushion.

Or that we/they need to see what he has with nothing held back.

Word. Maybe he finally feels confident in a QB on our roster... I know I do in Colt...

Specifically because the connecting piece (Colt McCoy) has precedent (draft day).

Oh I think he's glad to finally have a qb worth a damn to "rally behind", TBPP - but I think he would like to "not put that pressure on the kid" (to paraphrase Mangini's own words) of naming him the starter for the remainder of the season. Everyone knows it's McCoys team, but I think Mangini uses that weekly "we'll see who gives us the best chance to win" routine as a way to give the kid a little more space. A cushion, if you will.

Like I said before, I hope it's a sign of Mangini's security. What's the saying? Hope for the best, plan for the worst?

edit:
Golf's article^^ gives me a good amount of hope though. I like it.
What's funny leg is I think Mangini may not be telling the whole truth in the article. I agree with you earlier in the season, Mangini didn't want to put too much pressure on the kid. Hell the kid wasn't even supposed to play this year. But McCoy too that pressure in stride and I'd say still excelled. So now Mangini is saying to him. "ok kid time for the next step in the process, time to show us you are the guy and can handle the job, here's 3 weeks to show us. "

BTW I just reqouted what bernie posted so he gets the credit

Is that Mangini, or Holmgren with that sentiment? My hope is it's Mangini, but I think it might be Mike (too). Any slip, and it's on Mangini because he's the one who verbalized the commitment to McCoy to the public/team (and probably to McCoy privately too).

Again, we've been so dysfunctional for so long, this tinfoil hat shit I keep writing seems normal.

In addition to Cribbs/Hillis, I think McCoy/Mangini could be the face of Cleveland Browns football. It works (if it works out )

Fact is, HOLMGREN is the one that literally MANDATED that Colt would not play this year...so he basically took that option away from Mangini before the season ever started. If ANYONE could be seen as NOT being on board with Colt playing now, it is HOLMGREN. I got the sense after the Pittsburgh game that Mangini was going to push the 'injury' issue with JD and SW as long as he could to keep Colt on the field...and I also get the sense that he all but decided to put Colt in now...but 'passed it by' Dabs and MH just to keep them in the loop and keep the lines of communication open.

Listen, I like what MH is doing, and I love the last draft...but I don't think MH walks on water any more than I think EM does. BOTH are fallible and BOTH can make good decisions....I just have a feeling after MH's "Colt will not play this year" comment, that playing him for the rest of the season is more of a EM idea.

Besides, has anyone heard MH come out and talk about Colt the way EM has? I sure haven't. He seems miffed his plan (of sitting Colt) didn't go the way he wanted (to me anyway). The kid doesn't look to NEED a QB guru...he seems to JUST HAVE IT!

IF it's Holmgren doing it, then Mangini should be fired right now and so should Holmgren. I said this back in the RAC days too when people were telling me that Lerner or Savage were forcing RAC to play BQ.

ANY COACH. ANY ANY ANY COACH, that allows someone to bully him into a decision he does not agree with doesn't deserve to be the coach.

Now, did Mangini consult Holmgren? I am sure he did. Could it be that Mangini was on the fence on the issue, maybe didn't necessarily want to put more pressure on Colt and was convince by Holmgren it's time? Sure that's a possibility. But when I read those quotes, I don't see a guy being forced into any decision.

I'm pretty sure the reason MH stated McCoy would not play this year was so the fans would not clamour for him to start over JD and SW. That was a huge problem in the DA and BQ era. Odviously BQ was not ready to start but fan pressure was so great it was forced. Well MH wanted to nip that in the bud before it ever started, imo.

Yep. Holmie was trying to prevent another QB controversy in Cleveland.

Agreed, thats what delhomme was supposed to do for us but alas, The Quarterback of the Future, a true leader arose, and is here, ALL HAIL COLT! funny thing, when this kid was in school, i lived in texas and the way people talked about him, revered him, you just knew he was gonna be a star. So far so good, lets hope he makes the best of this opportunity and plays well, and more importantly continues to learn and adjust to the game, he is smart as a whip, you can see it in his decision making imo, now lets hope he doesnt make me eat my words next season or this shit will be quoted no doubt.
