Default What About Robo

I continue to scratch my head about the Brown's offense and watching the last few weeks has me asking questions about Robo and what he can be as an NFL WR.

This is a legit 4.4 kid who runs good routes. He has good football genes and is a genuine nice guy. He got a pass from me last year because of our complete mess at QB and Mangini not activating him because he didn't play special teams well.

During training camp he was the best thing since sliced bread, then he disappeared.

At the middle of this season I began to say, "well maybe he just doesn't have it". Hard to believe after seeing him play at OSU and knowing he is a hard worker who puts in plenty of time.

Know, we have a QB who isn't afraid to throw the ball downfield and Robo emerges again. So, is it Robo who has a lack of talent or has it been this offensive scheme and QBs who wouldn't throw the ball downfield.

I like the kid and would love to see him be a success. I think he runs better routes then MoMass, I know he is faster and seems to have better body control. He did seem a bit mechanical last year but that has seemed to gone by the wayside as he learned the pro game more.

Can Robo be a legit #2 because I have a lot of reservations about MoMass ever taking over that roll. I think MoMass is a better slot guy then a deep threat.

I would really like to have some questions answered before the season ends. Hopefully McCoy can finally let the team make an honest evaluation of where these two guys will end up fitting. Whatever the answer, we still will need a #1 who can come in and be an impact player. A guy who scares defenses. We don't have that guy and that limits too many other things the offense can do.

I tried to tell people that Robo has better deep speed than Momass, Momass has quick bursts in and out of cuts, but if youre running a streak down field, Robo is your guy there.

Momass has the WORST, absolute, WORST ball tracking skills EVER!! He does not know how to adjust to a ball, and he has inconsistent hands. Robo on the other hand, is very consistent with his hands, and tracks down balls pretty well.

Robo just doesnt have much explosive burst, he's more of a gazelle type runner

If I can use an example....

You have momass who is 0-60 in 4 seconds..... but he tops out at 60, Robo is 0-60 in 6 seconds, but he tops out at 80 mph.

Robo doesnt get as much separation because he doesnt have acceleration, but if he's in man coverage running a fly or go route, I bet he beats the corner 50-60 yards downfield, plus he has a really large body, long arms, and good height to get better position.

Im betting Robo scored again on Sunday, dont be surprised if he has a coming out party these next few weeks

I watched Robo in training camp in 2009 and he did look slow coming out of his breaks and was too mechanical in is routes. But this year he was quick out of his cuts in training camp and was creating separtion more times then not. There wasn't too many people covering him one on one in August. The guy was awesome in training camp.

Then it was like WTF........................................Where did he go or why did you stop throwing him the ball.

Personally, I think if you could put a solid #1 playmaker on the other side of Robo he would really shine. I think he got stuck in the wrong system and a system without a QB that wants to run the ball and not throw it down the field.

I think the team hasn't scratched the surface with him. I'm hoping McCoy is looking for a go to guy who can get down the field when teams concentrate on taking the TE and Hillis away.

You hit the nail on the head, Robo's best year at OSU was in 07 when he was opposite of Ginn and had a QB who could throw the ball to him. 08 he had a freshman Pryor who was grossly inaccurate and had no one really drawing coverage away from him.

I'm not ready to write Robo off, and I'm really more unimpressed with MoMass at this point and time. I think by the end of next season we will know if either of these WR's are NFL caliber or not. I think that our lack of any kind of playmaking threat, even if he's not a legit #1 at WR is killing our offense and the team will hopefully prioritize it to bring in some play makers and maybe we'll see what these guys are really made of or maybe they'll go the way of Eric Wright once there's some competition? Minus having proven a level of play pedigree of course.

Maybe Eric Wright covered him during training camp?

Where is Robo???.. not sure.. we just for darned sure better bring in a whole lot of competition next year.. Sink or swim guys.. I still say 2-3 FA's and 2 draft picks.. let them duke it out... We will be much better with that strategy...If Robo and Momass make the cut so be it..if not.. "See ya, wouldn't want to be ya"

I think competition would be great for everybody. My point for the post, because I know there are others about Robo, is how much has the system and lousy QB play effected these guys compared to others who stepped onto a team with Manning or Brady under center.

I'm not throwing Robo under the bus yet until I see some more talent and a decent pass offense around him (QB included). I'd hate to see the team release him and have him go to Indy or someplace else and become a star.

Or, time to get a QB who can deliver the ball to these guys and let them develop.

Also, an offensive system that isn't from the stone age would be an asset to a young WR.

just sayin...........................................

I think, HOPE, that Colt can assert himself as the future QB of this team. Having a stable QB presence will be a HUGE benefit for this team.

Having a solid right side of the line would be a great help to McCoy also.

That being said, this team needs to have some stability and continuity if they ever want to take the next step and become winners.
