Actually, I think the talk of changing the OC is called having Heckert/Holmgren/Mangini going into a room and discussing the issue of the offense...just like they claim to have been doing all season long and even in the pre-season...and the group of them coming to a decision to either back Dabolls or to go in another direction offensively.

The one thing that has impressed me most about Mangini is that he has taken parts of the systems from every coach/regime he has been with and worked it into HIS system. In other words, the guy is not a my way or the hiway type like some try to claim.

He may decide he will not go forward without Daboll...and end up out...or he may convince Heckert/Holmgren that Daboll deserves the chance to work with a RT/WR, etc...and they both stay.

The point is, I prefer Mangini/Daboll continue on next year to give Colt continuity and stability around him so he can mature instead of learning a new system in his second year. Seems to me Couch suffered much the same fate and I don't want to waste the talent we have seen from Colt by making him learn system after system.

If Daboll is gone, so be it. And I don't remember saying put Mangini on a short leash. I just said that IF he didn't win with the new tools (and Dabs didn't succeed on offense), then I would be fine with whatever they decided. After all, it would be strike 3 on the offensive side.

I can see all three discussing the fate of the offense together, but Daboll is not staying as long as Holmgren is here. There are philosophical differences in how an offense should be run, plus the low receptions by the WR's is a deal breaker I think.

Not sure how many coaches and systems Mangini has been in, but I think it is just Belichick. But I agree about yanking systems out from under Colt. The case can also be made he needs a better system, a more experienced OC, and better use of the WR's.

I don't think Holmgren and Heckert are going to approach 2011 in a wait and see mode with Eric. That was 2010. I won't say he failed but he didn't pass. Holmgren is under the gun to turn this thing around and he is not going to place the organization in a situation where they have to make a coaching change a year late. And if changing the OC was the only thing they did then it should have been done last season. Eric was given an opportunity to change last season and he didn't, which kind of places him in the "made your bed" category.

Look, all BS aside, we can debate injuries and talent all day long, but Detroit was a more competitive team with better W-L results (2009 vs 2010) with similar injury and talent issues. Jim Schwartz got more out of his talent than Mangini did his. To me that says we may not have the best long-term HC right now. I am not discounting what Eric has done for many facets of this team but I am not confident he and his staff can take the next step at the pace they are going now.

I have always liked Eric and was in his corner up until we played like shit vs CAR, BUF and CIN - all teams going either in the wrong direction or a year behind our development. And it is the way they lost, with these teams pushing us around and running all over us.

If Eric is building a team to run the ball and stop the run in cold weather, and he fails to accomplish at least what he is good at or achieve the goals he set out since August (vs. shit teams in the weakest part of the schedule), why would I give him another shot just because he is a nice guy and improved the margin of defeat?

I am just not convinced.
