It's just a nice way to go into the offseason with 70+ guys under contract. You can load up on some young if-come talent, or protect a couple of practice squad players by promoting them.

But JJ, Mangini is NOT BB (sarcasm in full force)!!!
I noticed this too. The season is lost, so now it is time to EVALUATE for next year....and instead of trying to save his job (as some accuse), he is going about the business of being an NFL coach and trying to evaluate as many players as he can in need positions.
Look at it this way...the Browns have a NEED for a 3rd string QB at the very least. If this guy can fill in where Wallace is now (a hybrid QB/athlete), he could be a good wildcat option for the team. Wallace has a 1 yr contract that expires this year, so he is likely gone, especially considering the mumbling we hear about his discontent....and I really think the Browns keep JD as the experienced backup/mentor for Colt...I can't ever remember a guys name linked to another so many times as a QB in my entire life following the Browns. JD has taken Colt under his wing and is doing his best to make him an allstar.
Just look at the roster right now with all these late additions:
Titus Browns, LB
Coye Francies, CB
Travis Ivey, NT
Jordan Norwood, WR
Steve Octavian, LB
Ko Quaye, DT
Brian Sanford, DE
I probably missed a few...but these are all NEED areas...and nice to see us taking advantage of the rules instead of hoping injured guys will return in time for one more meaningless game.
I just hope Holmgren sees and understands that the coach is putting TEAM FIRST instead of job stability.
